Description
The Billing Specialist for Patient Collections job is to perform in-house collection duties for overdue patient account balances.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Review and document collection notes in patient accounts
- Contact patients with outstanding balances and send communications as appropriate
- Evaluate delinquent patient accounts for submittal to 3rd party collections
- Use the computer systems’ Collection Module to track activity with patients and establish payment plans with approved guidelines
- Administer payment plan process
- Promote the company website and patient link resources on the company website by communicating to patients that they can pay their bill online
- Other miscellaneous task as delegated by Billing Manager
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times; comply with HIPAA and other compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Maintain detailed knowledge of the practice software and other computer software and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled
- Attend other sessions as needed to maintain continuing education as requested
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma required
- College education or trade school preferred
- Experience working in a physician office or hospital billing-type position preferred
- Proven record of discussing financial responsibilities and establishing payment plans when necessary
- Comfortable using email and interacting various applications
- Knowledge of Billing and Collections procedures
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-1O CM coding
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Goal-oriented and strong attention to details
- Knowledge of managed care, commercial insurance, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement
- Proven knowledge of Explanation of Benefits forms, claim forms and insurance billing process
