The Summit Area YMCA (SAY), is seeking experienced Yoga Instructor to teach classes to our members and help take our fitness programs to the next level. The Instructor leads group fitness classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures


This position is part time with an opportunity to teach multiple classes per week. We are currently look for instructors to teach weekly classes at both the Summit YMCA and Berkeley Heights YMCA branches, weekday mornings between 6am - 12pm, evenings 5pm - 8pm, and weekend mornings 7am-12pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging yoga classes
  • Provide clear verbal instruction and physical demonstration of poses
  • Offer modifications to accommodate all skill levels and abilities
  • Begin and end classes on time, maintaining a professional and organized environment
  • Create a welcoming space that encourages mindfulness and connection
  • Incorporate guided meditation or relaxation techniques when appropriate
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and safety practices in yoga and fitness
  • Communicate planned absences to your supervisor in advance
  • Report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly
  • Follow all YMCA fitness and association policies and procedures
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings as scheduled

Salary & Benefits:

Compensation range for this role is $28.00 - 40.00/hour, based on education & experience. This Part Time position is scheduled to work up to 25 hours per week, with shifts available weekday mornings between 6am - 12pm, evenings 5pm - 8pm, and weekend mornings 7am-12pm.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 200 hour Yoga certification
  • Ability to work independently to keep a schedule, start/end class on time, commit to assigned classes, cover for other instructors, maintain accurate timecard, and attend staff meetings
  • The ability to connect with the Y community is essential. You will not only be an instructor. You will also be a member.
  • Experience or certification in guided meditation is a plus 
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Good communication skills
  • Be knowledgeable about health & fitness field including current trends and safety issues.
