Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:The Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education (CHSE) in the College of Education at the University of Maryland at College Park is searching for a 9-month appointment. This is an open-rank (Assistant, Associate, Full) Clinical Professor of Counseling Psychology. This professional-track faculty (non-tenure-track) position is scheduled to begin August of 2026. CHSE embraces diversity in multiple forms, including identity, background, theoretical and methodological orientations, and opinions. CHSE is home to nationally top-ranked programs, most notably the Student Counseling and Personnel Services area, ranked 1st by the U.S. News & World Report in 2025. The College of Education itself ranked No. 24 among public graduate schools of education nationwide. The position serves the joint doctoral program in Counseling Psychology housed across both the College of Education (CHSE) and the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (Department of Psychology).
Applicants should understand that this position is a professional-track teaching/administrative appointment and does not lead to tenure or a tenure-track position. The contractual length varies depending on the rank of the successful candidate.
Responsibilities
The position is primarily dedicated to teaching, training, and administrative service in the counseling psychology doctoral program. Core responsibilities include course development and instruction, supporting program administrative activities (e.g., co-director or associate director role; APA self-study), and participating in key program activities. Although a program of research will not be required in this professional-track position, candidates who have the capacity to augment our research-intensive doctoral program through scholarly interests and/or expertise related to assessment, vocational psychology, career development, supervision, and psychotherapy process and outcome are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications
● Minimum of a doctoral degree in counseling psychology (or equivalent) from an APA accredited program
● Evidence of excellence in teaching for 2 or more semesters in a college/university setting
Preferred Qualifications
● Currently licensed as a psychologist (and/or expected to become licensed in Maryland within 1-2 years)
● Demonstrated expertise to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: Assessment, Vocational Psychology, Career Development, Supervision, Practicum
● Supervision experiences (e.g., supervising graduate students)
