Description

The Northbrook Park District is seeking Swim Instructors to teach swim lessons at our outdoor aquatic facilities during the 2026 pool season! This position is responsible for teaching swimming and/or diving lessons within the program guidelines at an assigned aquatics facility. Demonstrates commitment to the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of the District

 

Pay & Schedule:
$15.00 - $17.00 Per Hour

This is a part-time seasonal, non-exempt position.

Training Begins: May 4th, 2026

Lessons Begin: June 8th, 2026

Group Lessons run Monday - Thursday afternoons and Saturday & Sunday Mornings

Private Lesson times will vary

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Professionally develops and implements swim and/or dive lessons to individuals ranging in age from 6 months to 14 years.
  • Routinely facilitates swim and/or dive lessons according to set lesson schedule; begins and ends on-time.
  • Actively enforces all pool rules and regulations established by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), StarGuard, Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA) and the Northbrook Park District.
  • Promotes enjoyment and appreciation of aquatic skills and activities.
  • Accurately keeps attendance records and documents student progress.
  • Provides students support and constructive feedback and provides parents feedback as needed.
  • Obtains necessary lesson equipment prior to class and returns to storage following class.
  • Maintains a clean environment at the pools.
  • Diligently follows and adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with internal and external customers in a positive manner.
  • Follows safe work practices.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Some experience working with children and experience working at an aquatics facility; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills.

  • Illinois Mandated Reporter Certification – Department of Children and Family Services 

 

Skills & Abilities

  • Maintains professional standards set forth by StarGuard

  • In good physical and mental condition in order to do the job

  • Work with and instruct children in a positive and caring manner

  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and public in a professional manner during stressful situations

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Become CPR/AED Certified

    

Knowledge

  • Experienced swimmer/diver

  • Hands-on experience working as a lifeguard or swimming instructor

  • Hard-working, punctual and detail-oriented

  • District safety policies and procedures

  • The employee is required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, couch, or crawl; and smell.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Working in teams will allow workers to have assistance with heavier activities at various sites. Lifting also requires bending, stooping, carrying and twisting.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
