Overview:
The Store Educator plays a critical role in our cafe leadership team. They are responsible for maintaining quality, leading all training for new team members, and conducting public education classes. The Store Educator plays an essential supporting role in the cafe. They must have stellar communication skills, display leadership talent, and exercise excellent judgment.
Qualifications
Responsibilities:
- Represents the brand by maintaining the highest standards of service at every station, including demonstrating the highest level of excellence in customer service while on the floor.
- Maintains an awareness of staff training needs and other issues. Communicates with the Store Manager and assists in planning and implementing solutions and training.
- Leads from the front in maintaining a clean and orderly retail space; demonstrating diligence and thoroughness in performing daily & weekly cleaning duties; and keeping a tidy work area.
- Communicates and follows up on any equipment maintenance issues/technical concerns in a timely manner
- Daily sampling Espresso, V60, Quick Cup
- Maintains Quick Cup/Espresso Logs
- Stays up to date on all brewing SOPs, changes in blends and offerings. Ensures all bar staff and binders are up to date as well.
- Assists Store Manager in maintaining awareness of highlights & deficiencies in staff bar skills
- Conducts initial shadow shifts & trainings for all new baristas on cash, drip & bar, following up with further shadows/training as needed
- Coaches bar staff on technique on bar/drip to maximize speed & efficiency, ensure proper extraction, ergonomic movement, and uniformity of product, and to heighten understanding of coffee extraction theory.
- In charge of leading & setting up periodic in store launches of new products & tastings
- Interacts with the public during in store events & guides them through the product or tasting
- Leads public education classes as assigned
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Full time employee (30-40 hours per week)
- A passion for coaching and teaching others.
- Must be able to maintain a positive demeanor under stress with both staff and patrons.
- Exercises good time management and approaches all tasks with a sense of urgency.
- Has a logical and methodological approach to problem solving.
- Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Is resourceful in challenging situations and shows excellent customer service at all times.
- Demonstrates good leadership skills and is empathetic and supportive when engaging staff.
- Is able to communicate clearly, honestly and promptly.
- Is motivated, flexible, and professional at all times.
- Practice good judgment in all situations.
- Must be customer focused and sets priorities accordingly, helping coach staff in understanding proactive customer service.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including weekends and shift coverage
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for 8+ hours
- Ability to maneuver effectively around the café, office, and to/from other Sightglass locations for departmental meetings
