Summary & Objective
The Nurse Educator is responsible for implementing and evaluating the clinical nursing skills of Catholic Hospice nursing staff. The Nurse Educator will act as a role model and advocate to pass on life experiences and knowledge to motivate, support and enhance current employees and new employees through the orientation process.
Essential Functions
- Works with new hires to provide one on one education on skills, behaviors and knowledge, related to end of life care, needed to be compliant with regulatory oversight as well as improving patient and family satisfaction.
- Educates nurses to efficiently manage the care of a caseload of patients while improving technical skills.
- Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of education plan.
- Assesses and plans the ongoing educational needs with an emphasis on the clinical skills for nursing.
- Collaborates with Manager in researching and preparing continuing education units (CEU’s) for Catholic Hospice nursing staff.
- Develops and maintains educational materials and orientation manuals related to clinical nursing skills.
- Keeps self and staff updated on relevant clinical nursing skills.
- Assess the completion of nursing staff field competencies by observing and giving evaluation feedback to supervisor during introductory period.
- Participates in Quality Improvement studies as they relate to continuing education and the educational needs of the organization.

Other Duties
- Participates in staff and committee meetings and performs other duties as assigned by Manager.
- Develops electronic communication skills to participate in Catholic Hospice communication system and as a support tool for education purposes.
- Ensure effective communication with Interdisciplinary Teams.
- Promotes positive employee engagement, teamwork, mutual respect and safety work practices.
- Maintain your required licenses, certifications and mandatory skill updates.
- Comply with all policies, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Provide other duties of healthcare team member.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
- May serve as an interim department leader depending on need
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250+ pounds, walk, climb stair or ladders, stand on feet for extended periods of time, etc.
