The City of Tomball is accepting applications for the position of Property and Evidence Technician, this position plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and chain of custody for evidence and property within the Police Department. In addition to primary responsibilities related to evidence.

Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

 

Education HS_GED

Experience No previous relevant work experience is required.

Certifications

Licensing Current Valid Texas Driver's License



Property & Evidence Technician include but are not limited to the following:

  • Evidence and Property Management: Receive, secure, preserve, distribute, and dispose of physical evidence and property. Maintain a detailed and accurate record of all evidence and property transactions.
  • Crime Scene Investigation: Rapidly respond to crime scenes, documenting, collecting, and packaging evidence. Conduct detailed scene marking, photography, videotaping, sketching, fingerprinting, and other relevant processes.
  • District Attorney: Fulfill requests for evidence from the District Attorney's Office and through the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Evidence Destruction: Create and send destruction orders to the Harris County District Attorney's Office for approval. Manage the proper disposal of items with post-judge approval.
  • Evidence Processing: Utilize various methodologies for evidence processing, depending on the nature of the evidence. Stay updated on evidence processing techniques.
  • Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

E-trace (To look up serial numbers on guns to see the original owner), Track it (To look up and track sexual assault kits) Just FOIA (Freedom of Information Act, Open Records Requests), CLEAR/ TLO (Sites that enable us to look up personal information on subject, needing to return evidence or send a 90 day letter to) Axon Evidence.com (Uploading digital evidence for Harris County DA Requests) DPS Texas Secure Sex Offender Registry (maintain updated info on Offenders) NVMS 7000 (How we download station video), Harris County Fingerprint Scanner (uploading fingerprints to be matched within the Harris County Database) Knowledgeable in basic hand tools, reading measurements and scales. How to use and operate CSI equipment to include a variety of chemicals used for processing evidence, fuming chambers, drying chambers, vent hoods, cameras, video cameras, alternate light sources, metal detector, dig kit, cast impressions, filters, PPE, fingerprinting. Maintaining Telecommunicators License and training. Gray Key (Cell phone downloads).

SALARY RANGE:

  • Hiring range - $41,808 - $43,909 ($20.10 - $21.11)
  • Salary range - $41,808 - $62,712
