Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Design Engineer with hands-on experience in fabrication and manufacturing environments. This role is also open for individuals who have developed strong technical and design capabilities through practical experience and not necessarily through formal engineering degrees, although a degree is good to have. The Design Engineer will be responsible for creating detailed fabrication drawings, collaborating with production teams, and ensuring designs meet customer specifications and manufacturing capabilities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and revise 2D and 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings using software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks (preferable), or similar.
  • Collaborate with shop floor personnel to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
  • Interpret customer specifications and translate them into accurate design solutions.
  • Assist in estimating material requirements and production timelines.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input to improve product quality and manufacturability.
  • Maintain documentation and revision control of all design files.
  • Support troubleshooting and problem-solving during fabrication and assembly.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external clients regarding design intent and changes.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in design and drafting within a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks (preferred), Inventor).
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, materials, and mechanical principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or vocational training preferred.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with CNC programming or CAM software.
  • Familiarity with welding, machining, or sheet metal fabrication.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

 

Environment/Physical Requirements with or without Accommodation:

This position is carried out in a professional office environment and as such has the following physical work requirements:

  • This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • This is largely a sedentary role; however occasional lifting, bending, and standing would be required.
