Salary Range:  $61,667-$90,223

Ad Valorem - 2.40 parish property (ad valorem) tax mills are dedicated to employee salaries.  The annual receipts from this tax are distributed to employees twice a year, one-half in January and one-half in June. The amount of each employee’s supplement is the employee’s salary multiplied by the annual percentage (computed each year based on actual tax revenues)

 

Job Goal

To provide specialized occupational therapy (OT) services that address students’ motor, sensory and self-care needs, enabling them to access their educational programs, enhance their functional independence and achieve academic and social success in the least restrictive environment in accordance with the students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP). 

 

 

Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills and/or experience)

Required

  • Successful completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy (OT) program with a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure by the State of Louisiana to practice the profession of Occupational Therapy. 
  • Ability to meet all local, state and federal guidelines regarding professional practice and services in a school setting.
  • Basic understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other relevant Special Education legislation.
  • Familiarity with the IEP process and the role of occupational therapy within a Pre-K-12 educational environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assists with the identification of children who exhibit motor, sensory or self-care difficulties that may require occupational therapy intervention to support their educational participation.
    • Provides guidance to Teachers in observing, documenting and referring students with suspected or identified fine motor, sensory-processing and functional skill impairments that affect academic and daily school activities.
  • Conducts thorough assessments and evaluations to identify student needs, including physical / motor handicaps, establishes goals and develops action plans to support educational and personal growth. 
  • Designs and implements interventions and therapy programs tailored to individual student needs to achieve educational goals and objectives as outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEP), ensuring strategies align with district policies, goals and best practices. 
  • Monitors student progress using standards-based assessments and performance measures.
