Job Summary: 

The Staff Accountant will perform specialized accounting duties and administrative tasks that support the operation of the company’s accounting and financial systems. This position requires a high level of discretion and judgment in performing duties that have a direct impact on the company's overall operations, financial planning, and decision-making processes. The position would also be responsible for overseeing the account payable’s function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, managing vendor relationships, and maintaining proper financial controls. Lastly, the position will also require cash handling between both properties as the general cashier.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, ensuring that they are matched with purchase orders and receipts. Approve payment requests and maintain accurate records.
  • Oversee the preparation and execution of payment runs, ensuring payments are made in accordance with vendor terms and organizational cash flow requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights that help drive operational decisions.
  • Perform regular reconciliations of vendor statements and internal accounts to ensure accurate financial records.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting standards. Adhere to relevant laws, regulations, and tax requirements.
  • Manage and monitor the day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable processes, and month-end close procedures. Assist with maintaining the integrity of financial records and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Cash audits on the main safe and colleague’s banks and process pretty cash invoices.

 

Required Skills:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with vendors and internal teams.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards (GAAP) and compliance with tax regulations.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and proactive attitude.

  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to effectively adapt to changing business needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a group.
  • Strong understanding of cash flow management and payment scheduling.
  • Ability to reconcile vendor statements and internal records.
  • Analytical skills to interpret financial data and generate reports.

 

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in accounts payable.
  • Experience in the hospitality or retail industry is a plus.
  • Proficiency in ProfitSword Birchstreet, Sun Systems, Fintech and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with vendors, management, and other departments.
  • Ability to proactively identify and resolve payment issues, vendor concerns, and internal discrepancies.

 

Working Conditions:

  • The position will primarily work in an office environment and is typically Monday – Friday with occasional weekends during peak times (e.g., month-end or year-end closing).
