Description

Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community through advocacy, education, program development, and the delivery of direct services. Our organization is looking for a motivated individual with a calling to help adults with mental illness by becoming a Senior Accountant.


The Senior Accountant works closely with the Director of Budgets and Contracts, CFO, Grants Accountant, Medicaid Biller, Accounts Payable Specialist, and Payroll Coordinator to ensure the completeness and accuracy of posting monthly financial activity.  The Senior Accountant is responsible for coordinating monthly financial statement closings, preparation of financial statements, preparation of account analysis, and assisting in the annual financial statement audit.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Budgets and Contracts and CFO in planning and preparation of monthly financial statements, annual Agency budget, and other projects.
  • Prepare the following on a monthly basis (not an all-exhaustive list):
  • A/P aging reconciling to the general ledger 
  • Bank reconciliations 
  • PayPal account analysis
  • Mortgage and lease payments
  • Monthly analysis of balance sheet accounts in a “balance consists of format” for: 
  • Prepaid
  • Global cash card
  • Debt
  • AP and accrued expenses
  • Property plant & equipment and accumulated depreciation
  • Other
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements including analytical analyses comparing budget to actual costs and providing variance explanations.
  • Preparing monthly analysis of investment roll-forward analysis including purchase and sale activity.
  • Issuance of monthly Director budget to actual reports
  • Assisting in preparation of the annual budget
  • Responsible for maintaining the general ledger for Haypath and issuance of monthly/quarterly financial statements
  • Assisting in the issuance of 1099’s at year end
  • Preparation of data for input into annual CFR report
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA, or MBA preferred
  • Minimum 5 years related experience

Other Qualifications

  • Solid experience in coordinating audit activities, , budget development, account analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations a plus.
  • Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Skill set that will propose new methods and/or improvements to historical processes
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, effective communication, and preparation of key data schedules for presentation to the leadership team.
  • MS Office, experience with FundEZ accounting software is a plus, advanced EXCEL skills including use of look-up tables
