The Director of Development & Stewardship will oversee the day-to-day tasks of the agency's community engagement and donor development efforts. This position works closely with CNYHHN CEO, CFO and Connect Ed Executive Director to create an annual development and fundraising workplan with clearly defined goals and objectives. The position also works closely with CNYHHN's contracted marketing, advertising, and grant writing partners to create and execute deliverables that align with the annual workplan. This position will seek and solicit gifts from major donors; grow the corporate giving and sponsorships of fundraising events; manage a planned annual giving campaign; write and submit targeted foundation and grant proposals; steward donors, supporters, and members with timely and effective communications; plan and execute fundraising and stewardship events throughout the year. The position will also be accountable for targeted growth in fundraising activities.

Requirements

Primary Role and Responsibilities

Activities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits major individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations.  
  • Establish and maintain ongoing personal contact and relationships with donors and supporting organizations.
  • Creates and executes an annual development and fundraising workplan for the organization and its subsidiary company(s).  
  • Develops and implements strategies for donor engagement, acknowledgement, recognition, and retention, ensuring donors understand the impact of their contributions.
  • Oversee the grant writing process, including research, proposal development, and reporting on fund usage.  
  • Works in partnership with the Administrative Business Parter to creates impact reports, annual reports, thank-you letters, and other written materials for donors and funders.
  • Organizes and manages cultivation and stewardship events, as well as larger special fundraising events. 
  • Utilize donor databases and research tools to track engagement and identify new prospects.
  • Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director of Connect Ed, Chief Financial Offer and Administrative Business Parter to support fundraising efforts.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication for storytelling and donor relations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with donors and colleagues.
  • Ability to provide data analysis to meet contributed income goals.
  • Ability to conduct needs assessment and ability to coordinate projects.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, donor engagement strategies, and giving trends.
  • Meticulous attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and reporting.
  • Accepts and readily adapts to changing priorities, new ideas, strategies, procedures and methods. 
  • Makes decisions in a timely manner. 


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Communications or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in fundraising, with a focus on major gifts, individual giving and donor relations.
  • Experience in Non-profit management preferred.
  • Proven track record of securing major gifts ($5,000+) and meeting or exceeding annual fundraising goals.
  • Experience with donor database systems and fundraising analytics.
  • A valid NYS Driver’s License is required. 



Physical Demands

  • Ability to quickly address any emergent issues without losing focus on the task at hand.
  • The employee must have full sight and hearing with fluency in the English language. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, computer printer, etc.
