Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:- Performs utility and building mechanical system and equipment infrastructure assessments and oversees the design and replacement/upgrade of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Will support construction and maintenance project activation. May perform project management activities for mechanical system upgrade efforts.
- Evaluates the operation and maintenance of the central plants and utility systems and makes suggestions for improvements.
- Plans and coordinates utility outages in support of maintenance & repair and acts as primary liaison with campus projects that interact with existing utilities and/or incorporate new utilities.
- Provides analysis, design, and construction support for the Energy Management & Utilities team, Engineering & Energy (E&E) unit, other FM units, and independent college projects and construction activities as they affect campus mechanical utilities. Assures that project goals include the improvement of utility system reliability and efficiency.
Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from ladders; to manipulate equipment, tools and supplies; to have the manual dexterity to operate a computer; to wear and work in personal protective equipment (safety footwear, hard hat, protective eye and ear wear, etc.); to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to lift 70 pounds. While the physical demands listed above may be experienced, the position is primarily an office environment.
Preferences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar related field
- Professional Engineer
- Knowledge and use of hydraulic evaluation software, such as Termis or Pipeflo is desirable
- Experience with design and/or Operation and Maintenance of district energy systems
Licenses/ Certifications:
Incumbent must possess a driver’s license, as duties require the incumbent to travel to and from meetings and project sites both on and off campus. If driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess a valid MD Class C driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than six (6) points.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Three (3) years of responsible experience working on mechanical or structural engineering systems. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of structural engineering idea generation, design, and construction.Knowledge of CAD. Skill in oral and written communication.Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.Additional Job Details
