Midland University is seeking experienced and dedicated educators to serve as University Student Teacher Supervisors. The supervisor is a key member of the supervisory team, responsible for mentoring, observing, and evaluating student teachers during their clinical field experiences in K-12 school settings. This role requires regular travel to assigned school districts in the Fremont/Omaha area and maintaining a strong, positive liaison between the university, the student teacher, and the cooperating/mentor teacher.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Observe and Evaluate: Conduct regularly scheduled, on-site observations of student teachers in classroom settings (typically 5 to 6 visits per semester).
- Provide Feedback and Coaching: Offer objective, specific, and constructive written and oral feedback to student teachers after each observation to support their professional development.
- Facilitate Communication and Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison between the university, the student teacher, and the cooperating teacher, ensuring open lines of communication.
- Conduct Conferences: Organize and lead formal three-way conferences (university supervisor, cooperating teacher, student teacher) at mid-term and at the end of the placement to discuss progress and final evaluations.
- Assess Performance: Use university-provided evaluation instruments and state-specific forms to formally assess student teacher performance and professional dispositions.
- Mentor and Guide: Counsel, motivate, and assist student teachers in applying teaching theory to classroom practice, managing classroom dynamics, and addressing problems or conflicts as they arise.
- Review Documentation: Receive and review student teacher lesson plans, reflection journals, and other required assignments.
- Assign Grades: In consultation with the cooperating teacher, determine and submit the final grade for the student teaching course.
- Attend Meetings/Seminars: Participate in mandatory orientation sessions, supervisor meetings, and, at times, facilitate seminars for assigned student teachers on relevant topics.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in Education or a related field.
- Experience with Canvas - Learning management system.
- Current or previous valid teaching or administrative certificate/license.
- A minimum of three (3) years of successful K-12 teaching experience.
- Demonstrated supervisory, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to use assessment data to evaluate progress and provide feedback.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to various school sites.
- Daytime availability during the academic year to conduct observations.
