Title: Alumni Relations Manager

Job Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Work Year: 12-months
Salary Range: $60,000 to $70,000 annually based on experience

The Alumni Relations Manager will lead strategic engagement initiatives and design impactful programs and events that strengthen the lifelong bond between alumni and their alma mater.


By cultivating meaningful relationships, organizing events both locally and globally, and serving as a key liaison between the alumni body and the school, the Alumni Relations Manager will play a vital role in supporting ʻIolani’s mission of excellence in education, character development, and One Team spirit.


Essential Responsibilities:


Leadership and Supervision

  • Manage, mentor, and support the Alumni Relations Team to ensure the effective execution of alumni programs, events, and communications.
  • Provide clear direction, professional development, and performance feedback to foster a collaborative and high-performing alumni relations team.
  • Collaboratively work with the Advancement team to strategize and execute school and departmental initiatives.

Alumni Engagement and Relationship Building

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to strengthen alumni engagement and increase participation across generations — from recent graduates to longtime supporters.
  • Cultivate meaningful, lasting relationships with alumni of all ages, backgrounds, and geographic locations through attendance at various meetings and events, helping to foster lifelong connections with ʻIolani School.
  • Conduct regular outreach to alumni to share updates, celebrate milestones, and invite active involvement in school life.

Event Planning and Representation

  • Organize, plan, manage, execute, and follow up on alumni events, reunions, and networking opportunities at the local, national, and international levels.
  • Represent the school at alumni gatherings and community events, often in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Serve as a liaison to various alumni groups, boards, and committees, which will require flexibility and frequent after-hours engagement.
  • Recognize that the role includes significant evening and weekend commitments to ensure the success of alumni programming and relationship-building activities.

Communications and Marketing

  • Collaborate with the Advancement and Communications teams to craft compelling content and strategies for alumni outreach, including emails, newsletters, social media, and website updates.
  • Manage the ʻIolani Alumni social media accounts and online platforms to share stories, celebrate alumni achievements, and strengthen engagement.

Community and Culture

  • Work closely with students, faculty, and families to promote the One Team culture and integrate alumni participation into the broader school community.
  • Foster a culture of giving back by encouraging alumni to share their time, expertise, and financial support to advance ʻIolani’s mission.

Data and Operations

  • With the help of the database team, maintain and update alumni database records to ensure accuracy and effectiveness in outreach and engagement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, education, or a related field.

  • Minimum of three years of experience in alumni relations, development, event planning, marketing, sales, or a related area.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience supervising or mentoring staff, preferred.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills with the ability to connect meaningfully across diverse age groups and communities.

  • Proven ability to organize and execute successful events and projects from conception to completion.

  • Proficiency in database management and digital communication tools.

  • Ability to manage physical aspects of the role, including standing for long periods and setting up event equipment (up to 40 lbs).

  • Willingness and availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for events, meetings, and travel.
