Seasonal Maintenance Worker I - Fleet and Buildings chez City of Apple Valley, MN

About the Department

The Seasonal employee performs tasks consistent with but not limited to the maintenance and cleaning of the Central Maintenance Facility (CMF) building/grounds.  This position requires manual labor and routine equipment operation for maintenance operations for the Fleet and Building Division.

Position Duties

Building maintenance (e.g. painting, organizing and routine services, etc.)
Snow removal included but not limited to shovel walks, door entrances and lot plowing
Janitorial duties (e.g. emptying trash cans, sweep and mop hallways, etc.)
Picking up trash
Assisting fleet (e.g. equipment repair, parts pickup and shop cleaning, etc.)
Assisting full-time employees with day-to-day responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older
High school graduate or equivalent
Experience in home and yard maintenance activities
Valid Driver's license and excellent driving record
Demonstrates positive work ethic
Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
Ability to meet physical requirements, bending, twisting, gripping, carrying, shoveling and lifting up to 50lbs
Work indoors and outdoors
Knowledge of appropriate safety regulations and demonstrated ability to follow safe work practices according to law, City practices, and generally accepted safe work standards

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance
Experience in related field
Experience as a Seasonal maintenance employee

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Work is performed primarily at City of Apple Valley Central Maintenance Facility (CMF).
Physical activities include bending, twisting, gripping and carrying.
Ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs.  Ability to carry and operate various types of equipment.

Other Qualifications

Seasonal position can work up to 6 months.  Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
