As a Transportation Capacity Controller, you'll play a vital role in effectively facilitating the planning of Transportation resources to meet the volume demands and service level agreements to both our Stores and Customers. You'll work closely with the Network Projections Team to understand and account for outbound trailer projections by warehouse and then incorporate this info into a Transportation Capacity planning model. You'll work with the various Terminal Leaders to ensure the short-term and long-term capacity and staffing plans are clearly defined.

What is the work?
Leadership:
- Drives cross-functional alignment on capacity and staffing planning strategies / metrics.
- Supports internal and outer terminal Ops and Facility Leaders on annual volume / staffing planning; supports staffing / projection requests from leadership; collects feedback on staffing processes from Team Leaders, Operations Leaders, Facility Leaders.
- Works to identify and streamline Parkway planning and 3rd party carriers - requests.
- Identifies / assesses how network changes will change terminal/driver capacities; ensures structural network / product flow changes are incorporated into capacity/staff planning methodology.
- Monitors plans and work-in-process backlogs to consider impacts of future planning and staffing.
- Drives innovation by developing best practices for holiday planning, schedule automation, long-term planning, etc.
- Resolves facility concerns quickly; escalates as appropriate.
- Monitors / manages toward meeting metrics expectations (e.g., financial results to budget, customer service, operational excellence, and talent assessment)
- Role models open door policy; cultivates an environment of teamwork.
- Performs daily/weekly check-ins with terminal Leaders to understand terminal priorities and capacity; uses trend graphs and reporting tools to help identify and drive areas of opportunity.
- Shares information such as weekly goals with Leaders; facilitates Partner understanding of how their work impacts customers and the network.
- Clearly explains volume / staffing projections, performance metrics, and staffing updates to Sr. Leaders, Facility Leaders, Team Leaders, and Operation Leaders at assigned terminals.
- Builds collaborative relationships with peers network-wide.
Capacity / Scheduling:
- Creates and maintains a network staffing and capacity planning to for ALL terminals to use.
- Identifies short- and long-term operational risks driven by resource shortages / excesses.
- Partners with Leadership to ensure short-term plans are clearly defined, including weekly capacity planning throughout the network, as well as preparing for seasonal, holiday and special events.
- Collaborates with the Network Projections Team and Transportation Strategy on future staffing levels that account for both growth and service area changes within various terminals.
- Identifies / proposes mitigation plans to support efficient operations amongst the various terminals.
- Collaborates with the Network Projections team to identify root cause assessment on outbound projections / labor; identifies key drivers of forecast errors.
- Ensures compliance with legal / regulatory guidelines.
- Attends periodic Warehousing meetings to assess facility specific strategies.
- Participates in weekly Production Controller conference calls to stay current on events and tools / process updates, relays information to leadership.
- Monitors KPIs daily, weekly, and by Period; takes corrective actions; prepares / communicates key performance metrics in weekly direction-setting meeting.
- Oversees / validates input parameters in Transportation Scheduling and Staffing tools; reviews / recommends changes to Driver DOW patterns.
- Reviews / communicates volume and staffing projections to respective Team Leaders, Operations Leaders, and Facility Leaders.
- Reviews / maintains all key Resource planning parameters / metrics within assigned terminals (run rates, driver utilization, schedule performance, attendance, etc.).
What is your background?
- A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
- Experience as a production controller or capacity planner
- Planning experience as a Team Leader in MWT (preferred)
- Experience successfully motivating teams and managing through adversity (preferred)
- Completion of required H-E-B Leadership classes, as scheduled
