TITLE OF VACANCY:                      Itinerant Physical Therapist – .3 FTE

POSITION TYPE:                              Professional

ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT:               The West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (WVSDB)

LOCATION:                                       Romney, West Virginia

Provide student specific physical therapy evaluations, assessments and consultations as required by IEP guidelines for services 1.5 days (11.5 hours) per week as scheduled by immediate supervisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adheres to WVBE Policy 5902 – “Employee Code of Conduct” and the applicable WVSDB personnel policies for employee performance.
Ensures appropriate supervision of students.
Conducts student-specific evaluations, assessments, consultations.
Consults with students, families, school staff members, and other service providers to develop recommendations for treatment programs and techniques, interpret evaluation results, and/or coordinate the provision of treatment.
Develops, plan, lead, and/or participate in educational training and outreach activities to include program development and presentation of lectures and/or workshops.
Works with a multidisciplinary team.
Assists in the development and implementation of special programs.
Gathers, stores, and monitors dates related to student progress for use in assessing progress toward individualized education program goals and objectives.
Communicates effectively with students, parents, educational personnel, and others.
Follows confidentiality procedures regarding students, parents/guardians, and staff members.
Demonstrates behavior which reflects established professional responsibilities.
Maintains records and submits monthly reports for Medicaid eligible services.
Performs other related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Holds a valid West Virginia license to practice Physical Therapy.
Criminal background check conducted pursuant to W. Va. Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
Possess a valid driver’s license and be available for statewide travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computer and multimedia equipment, and use repetitive motions. The employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 50-100 pounds. He/she shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed drugs while in the workplace. Alcohol and controlled substances which affect employee productivity, safety, or judgement will not be tolerated.

The staff member must meet ASL skill level requirements as delineated in the WVSDB Communication Policy for job classification.
The staff member must complete all required annual trainings.
The staff member works effectively as a member of the educational team.
The staff member demonstrates self-control and exhibits an attitude of mutual respect and tolerance.
The staff member demonstrates ethical conduct and good work habits such as punctuality and attendance.
The staff member demonstrates self-direction and the ability to use software applications for work productivity and collaboration.
The staff member is self-motivated and demonstrates the ability to manage multiple tasks/assignments to accomplish high-quality work to meet demanding deadlines.
The staff member demonstrates excellent communication skills and excellent presentation skills using current technologies.
The staff member understands that work assignments may change or be added as priorities emerge.

COMPENSATION:
Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with WVSDB Professional Salary Schedule, and Supplemental Pay commensurate with experience and education level, 60-day annual contract (.3 FTE – 1.5 days per week) pro-rated if hired after the start of the school term. Additional compensation is available for ASL skill level as detailed in the WVSDB Communication Policy.

EVALUATION:
Performance evaluation in accordance with West Virginia Board of Education Policy 5310.
