Position Duties
Essential Duties and Tasks
- Performs a variety of maintenance tasks such as mowing grass and preparing balls fields for play; repairs fences and gates; removes leaves, debris, and snow from facilities.
- Performs general maintenance tasks on public recreational complexes, play ground equipment, fences and gates and tennis courts.
- Performs some carpentry, plumbing, and minor electrical work related to recreational facilities.
- Prunes and weed eats.
- Applies mulch.
- Sprays and applies pesticides.
- Performs landscaping duties such as planting grass, building planting beds, applying fertilizer, etc.
- Cleans bathrooms and gets up trash at recreational facilities.
- Operates all equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks such as trucks, tractors, hand tools, and mowing machines.
- Drags, sets pitching rubber, installs bases, repairs fields and paints lines on ball fields.
- Mows grass, trims shrubbery, clears and landscapes other municipal property.
- Determines equipment and materials needed on job sites.
- Sets up and takes down for special events.
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment used.
- Drives crew and construction vehicles.
- May lead a crew of permanent, temporary, or seasonal workers on a project and instruct personnel regarding tasks to be performed and equipment safety.
- Works on weekends for tournaments and special events.
- Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the landscaping trade, specifically related to recreation field maintenance.
General knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned areas of work.
Working knowledge of the building trades of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
Working knowledge of horticultural practices.
Ability to perform heavy manual work over long periods of time.
Ability to work outside in various environmental conditions.
Ability to operate the equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Desirable Education and Experience
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
Pesticide license, preferred.
