Profile Description: 

Cupar & District Nursing Home Inc., located 45 minutes northeast of Regina and an affiliate of the SHA, is seeking a Permanent Full Time OUT OF SCOPE DIRECTOR OF CARE, who will be responsible for the Resident Care operations of this 45 bed long term care facility.

Job Description: 

The Director of Care (DOC) is accountable for the administration of Resident Care and Recreation Departments by effectively and efficiently developing, maintaining and delivery such services to residents and their families within the philosophy, policies and objectives established by the Board of Directors of Cupar & District Nursing Home Inc.

Nature & Scope:

The Director of Care will: assist the Executive Director in the management of all aspects of the Nursing Department including the efficient use of physical, financial and human resources; ensure the provision of quality care through effective and efficient program delivery, staff training and education and complete and timely resident reporting.

Responsible for departmental planning; RN/RPN/LPN scheduling (or schedule input/monitoring); staff appraisals; creating and implementing policies/procedures; organizing charts/care plans/quality assurance; meeting resident care and medical needs; self and staff education; open/positive communication (role model); coordinates disciplines; assisting in budget review for own departments; effective utilization of staff and supplies/equipment; directing and coordinating resident care with other disciplines/departments/agencies; staff meetings within Director of Care jurisdiction and other; other duties as assigned. Responsible to adhere to facility Collective Agreements, disciplinary actions and other Human Resource activities and coordinate discipline and coordinate discipline and other activities with the Executive Director. The position may be required to work RN/RPN/LPN shift(s) if insufficient staffing is available and to be on-call (stand-by). In the absence of the Executive Director, the incumbent assumes for the facility operation. Provide information reports to the Board of Cupar & District Nursing Home Inc. and attend meetings of the Board of Directors.

 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and is currently registered or eligible for registration with the SRNA or RPNAS

  • Proven administrative and management experience in health care delivery with a demonstrated understanding and commitment to Long Term Care

  • Awareness of the needs of geriatric residents, infections control practices, principles of adult education and quality improvement

  • Demonstrated leadership, planning, time management and communication skills

  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; a familiarilty with MDS and Care Ogranizer an asset

  • Familiarity with Collective Bargaining Agreements

  • Ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment

 

Experience:

 Minimum 3 years in a management role

Licenses: 

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

  • RN/RPN 

Languages: 

English

  • Basic Capability to transform systems: Champion and orchestrate change

  • Basic Interpersonal skills

Knowledge and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
