Youth Services Librarian

Location: Noblesville, IN
Salary Range: $41,310 – $45,441 annually (based on experience)
Status: Full-time, Exempt

About the Position

The Hamilton East Public Library (HEPL) in Noblesville is seeking a dynamic, service-oriented Youth Services Librarian to join our team. This position plays an important role in creating a welcoming, engaging, and educational experience for children and families through exceptional customer service, innovative programs, and thoughtful collection development.

Position Purpose

Provide customer service assistance to patrons to enhance the library experience through the use of library materials, resources, and equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Welcome visitors and provide exemplary HEPL hospitality.
  • Assist patrons with basic and complex questions regarding library services, resources, facilities, and equipment.
  • Conduct research using standard reference materials, online databases, and the Internet to answer patron inquiries and provide readers’ advisory services.
  • Analyze patron requests to determine needed information and locate or furnish that information.
  • Organize and promote youth collections through displays and engaging presentations.
  • Assist customers with account registration and maintenance.
  • Help maintain assigned collections.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, customer-centered programs, community events, and outreach services for youth and families.
  • Participate in the Person-in-Charge rotation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Master of Library Science (MLS/MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited institution required.
  • Indiana Library Certificate 3 or higher required.
  • Minimum of one year of library experience preferred.

  • Customer Service: Demonstrated ability to provide prompt, friendly, and professional service in person and by phone.
  • Teamwork: Works collaboratively and respectfully with coworkers; contributes positively to team efforts.
  • Communication: Strong written, verbal, and digital communication skills; ability to use social media and online tools effectively.
  • Adaptability: Open to change, flexible in response to shifting priorities, and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Public Image: Represents the library positively and promotes its programs and services to the community.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in computers, library management systems, and digital resources.

Physical Requirements

  • Outreach events may be held both within the library and at community locations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, and lift/move up to 25 pounds.
