Inside the Role

The Cost Engineering Manager plays a key leadership role within the Finance and Controlling organization, overseeing cost calculation, financial validation, and cost optimization for both new and existing product projects. This position is responsible for managing the Cost Engineering function, including should-cost analysis, target cost planning, tooling cost optimization, and supplier development cost validations while also validating Engineering changes and continues cost improvement ideas. By working cross-functionally with Engineering, Purchasing, CCI, Project Controlling, this role ensures cost transparency, cost optimization, risk management, and adherence to financial processes and compliance standards. The manager will also play an active role in supplier negotiations, operational planning, and strategic decision-making, while fostering a culture of leadership, coaching, and professional development.

What You Drive

  • Implement cost planning function at DTNA according to global Cost Engineering concept and methods for trucks. Ensure exchange of knowledge and processes inside global Cost Engineering network. 

  • Ensure timely completion of REC (Reference Costing or Should Cost) calculations for new parts and changes in line with sourcing roadmap timing - includes early engagement with Engineering and Purchasing 

  • Be an active contributor within supplier negotiations on new business awards or cost increases as requested by Purchasing. Ensure close collaboration within the engineering, purchasing and other Cost Engineering system groups to develop best cost scenarios and proposal for covered commodities 

  • Increase utilization of target cost process at DTNA inside new projects and series changes. 

  • Ensure usage of REC calculation of parts costs based on standard labor, material and machine rates to come up with a cost target within the target cost process. Support of local series optimization programs by providing REC calculations and benchmarking results.  

  • Ensure calculation of Supplier Development Cost (SDC) before supplier award by growing internal knowledge while relying on strong global Cost Engineering support  

  • Oversee wiring harnesses calculations and estimates for projects and series  

  • Be a Coaching Leader for your direct reports by insuring their continual development and be a champion for coaching leadership amongst your team. Manage and lead direct reports, providing the team with clear direction to be successful in their work performance. Provide honest and helpful feedback on a consistent basis. 

  • Track and report cost performance, ensuring accurate results in CoMeT+ 

  • Maintain strong relationships with senior management, project managers and cross functional teams locally and globally. 

  • Ensure compliance and integrity by assessing risks and addressing compliance failures. 

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor's degree with 6 years of related Engineering, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Finance or Purchasing experience required. 

  • At least 2 years of group leader, supervisory, or project lead experience required. 

  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills required. 

  • Strong analytical, technical, process, and problem-solving skills required. 

  • Strong background in cost engineering, financial controlling, and cost analysis within the automotive/trucking industry. 

  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, and Corporate Planning teams. 

  • Leadership experience with a focus on team development, coaching, and strategic decision-making. 

  • Proficiency in cost modeling tools (e.g. Taco/ Trace/ Schmale), databases, and financial reporting systems (e.g., CoMeT+). 

  • Ability to manage financial risk, enforce compliance standards, and drive process improvements in a complex, global environment. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including the ability to manage complex spreadsheets and presentations required. 

  • Ability to work with all levels of management and across companies with minimal supervision required. 

  • Ability to take ownership and provide reliable results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment required. 

  • Previous DTNA or large manufacturing company experience required. 

Exceptional Candidate Might Have

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Finance or Purchasing or a related field preferred.
