Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Strategic Engagement, the Assistant Vice President for Advancement Operations and Analytics (AVP) provides strategic leadership, management, and oversight for all advancement operations, analytics, and donor engagement functions within the Office of Institutional Advancement and Strategic Engagement. The AVP plays a key role in strengthening the infrastructure that supports fundraising, alumni relations, donor engagement, and campaign planning processes, ensuring data-driven decision-making and operational excellence. The AVP manages a team of five professionals, including two direct reports—the Director of Advancement Operations & Analytics and the Director of Donor Engagement—and serves as a thought partner to the Vice President, providing support and guidance on special administrative projects, including the unit budget and personnel processes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide vision and leadership for advancement operations, analytics, and donor engagement initiatives that align with the institution’s strategic priorities.

  • Oversee and continuously improve systems, policies, and processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance across advancement functions.

  • Lead data management and reporting strategies to inform decision-making, enhance donor stewardship, and strengthen philanthropic outcomes.

  • Collaborate with the Vice President and senior leadership to develop and monitor annual goals, budgets, and performance metrics for the division.

Team Management and Development:

  • Recruit, lead, and mentor a team of five professionals across advancement operations, analytics, and donor engagement.

  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on service, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop and implement training processes to ensure staff across the division effectively use advancement systems and data.

  • Provide guidance on hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations for staff within the division.

Advancement Operations:

  • Oversee gift processing, database management, and records management to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance.

  • Lead the development and integration of technology platforms that support and enhance online giving, donor engagement, analytics, and business processes.

  • Manage financial tracking, reconciliation, and reporting in collaboration with Finance and other university partners.

Donor Engagement:

  • Oversee donor engagement programs designed to strengthen relationships with donors, alumni, and other key stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Donor Engagement to develop creative and data-informed strategies for recognition, events, and personalized outreach.

  • Ensure alignment of donor engagement initiatives with fundraising and communications strategies.

Data Analytics and Reporting:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Advancement Operations & Analytics to develop an advancement analytics function that provide insights into donor behavior, campaign progress, and engagement trends.

  • Ensure data integrity and effective use of advancement databases, dashboards, and reporting tools.

  • Partner with IT, Finance, and other administrative units to ensure alignment of systems, policies, and reporting.

Administrative Leadership:

  • Provide senior-level administrative support to the Vice President, including oversight of the unit budget, contracts, and operational planning.

  • Assist with development and implementation of division-wide policies, hiring processes, and performance management systems.

  • Manage special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Vice President.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in advancement services, operations, analytics, or a related field, preferably in higher education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in database management, data analysis, and reporting tools.
  • Experience implementing and managing advancement CRMs and technology solutions (e.g. Blackbaud’s the Raiser’s Edge NXT).
  • Strong understanding of fundraising principles, philanthropic compliance standards, gift policies, and IRS regulations related to charitable giving.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to appropriately use and demonstrate proficiency with standard office productivity software, tools, and University systems, such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite equivalents.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical research practices.
  • Ability to speak clearly and communicate proficiently in English.
  • In addition to regular business hours, the person in this position must be able to be flexible around the needs of the University, which includes occasional evening and/or weekend hours.
