The Tribal Lineage and Content Intern will support the Middle East/Africa North homeland team’s development of content related to tribes, clans, and family groups throughout the region. The intern will help curate and catalogue our growing collection of Arabic books related to tribal lineages and family history. The intern will also help develop content aimed at patrons in and with roots in the Middle East/North Africa homeland.

The intern will be required to work on location at the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Responsibilities

Help pursue the development of content and records related to the region
Process and catalog all incoming texts related to the ME/AN collection
Inventory book collection and prioritize shelving
Coordinate with library cataloguing and scanning teams
Conduct genealogical research in Arabic
Work closely with homeland team members to collaborate on a variety of assignments
Other assignments related to the region as required

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (awarded or nearing completion) in Middle East Studies, Arabic Language, History, or related field
Arabic language proficiency
o Advanced reading and writing level of Modern Standard Arabic
o Adequate level of Classical Arabic
Knowledge of Arab tribes and family structure
Experience and familiarity with various cultures and peoples of the Middle East and North Africa
Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
Strong organizational skills
Self-motivated
Can work in person in Salt Lake City, Utah
Ability to lift up to 50lbs, push/pull heavy Library carts, bend/squat

 

Preferred Qualifications

Additional language skills are a plus. Persian, Kurdish, French, or Pashto preferred. Spanish, Portuguese can be helpful.
Knowledge of genealogical research principles
 

Paid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduation. They must sign a Paid Internship Engagement Letter.
