Job Title: Work Placement Coordinator 
Department: Work Experience 
Salary: £26,537 - £28,761
Job Type: Permanent, 35 hours per week

In this role, you’ll play a key part in connecting students with valuable real-world experiences by developing and managing high-quality work placement opportunities. You’ll work collaboratively with employers to source and coordinate placements, ensuring all compliance requirements are met throughout each student’s placement journey.

You’ll take ownership of growing and maintaining a portfolio of employer relationships — building new partnerships and generating placement and work taster opportunities through proactive outreach and engagement.

Working closely with curriculum teams and progress leaders, you’ll support the smooth running of placement processes and procedures, ensuring a positive and professional experience for both students and employers.

You’ll also manage a caseload of students across different curriculum areas, overseeing the tracking, monitoring, and reporting of placements to ensure all activity meets the college’s high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life. 
  • To be aware of national developments in work experience and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis. 
  • Work alongside course tutors to ensure work experience & work placement activities are appropriate for the targeted curriculum area. 
  • Talk to tutorial groups about work experience/work placements, employability, career taster days and the benefit of these activities and promote work related activities. 
  • Meet with selected individual students to discuss work experience and to help source a relevant placement. 
  • Liaise with employers and students to match students to placement and to manage expectations throughout the process. 
  • Provide a holistic service to ensure students can successfully access work placement opportunities and offer appropriate support so that SEND/LLDD students have equal access to these opportunities. 
  • Use a range of employer engagement methods, to proactively seek work placement and work related opportunities for students. 
  • Ensure that all health and safety checks and other required compliance documents are completed prior to placement. 
  • Work with curriculum, students and employers to develop clear job role descriptions and SMART targets.  
  • Ensure that work experience policy and procedures are followed correctly during placement. 
  • Be the key contact person, with specific assigned students on placement, and maintain regular contact with the student and the employer.   
  • Facilitate employer networking events to celebrate work experience success and to further promote placements and other activities to new employers. 
  • To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development.
Generic Duties:  
  • Develop a process which allows suitable students to be matched against appropriate work placement opportunities.
  • Using a range of employer engagement methods, to proactively seek work placement opportunities for college students.
  • Work alongside course tutors to ensure work experience & work placement, career taster days, employer talks are complementary to curriculum work 
  • Complete relevant placement health and safety checks and other required compliance documents where required. 
  • Talk to tutorial groups about work experience/work placements, employability, workplace expectations, career tasters and the benefits of these activities & promote work-related activities. 
  • Provide a holistic service to ensure students can successfully access work placement opportunities and work-related activities and offer the appropriate support, with 1-2-1 appointments as required.
  • Facilitate employer engagement for students in regard to their courses and interests. 
  • To carry out such relevant and appropriate duties within the framework of a post of this grade that may from time to time be required, at locations determined by the needs of the service. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria
  • Level 3 qualification or relevant experience   
  • Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 in English and mathematics or equivalent  
  • Understanding of the pressures faced by some students that may impact adversely on their well-being and on them successfully completing all elements of their study programme.
  • A high level of attention to detail  
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teams around the college in a multi-functional environment
  • Experience of providing information in a one-to-one and group situations
  • Experience of working with employers in supporting work-based activities/placements 
  • Must be able to demonstrate the promotion of equality and diversity  
  • Excellent computer literacy, demonstrating a willingness to learn new systems 6. High level of organisational and admin skills 
  • Essential Personal Attributes & Competencies relevant to the role

  • Demonstrable ability to provide accurate reports on data and performance

Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of employer engagement networking or recruitment and business development  
  • Ability to assimilate and understand the requirements of work experience in study programmes 
  • Experience of working with students across a range of work-related activities/employer activity and provision
