Our long-term partnership with NASA has created an exciting opportunity for a Linux Server Administrator working on the MTIC contract with the Information Technology IT Operations group at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. This position is primarily remote (Houston TX); however, the client may require occasional onsite presence (approximately 3–4 days per week) in the future, based on project needs. 

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for cross training lower-level system administrators and providing expert support to the contract.
• Responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems on Linux servers, including web (httpd and tomcat), database (Oracle), and NASA Legacy applications.
• Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains IT infrastructure in accordance with established policies and procedures. 
• Monitors and tunes the systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
• Ensures server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. 
• Familiar with Government Security requirements and knowledge of working with secure government Linux systems. 
• Familiar with Linux operating systems running as virtual machines under VMWare. 
• Will conduct routine hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. 
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of software, hardware, operating systems and installation procedures. 
• Will actively monitor system activity for errors and unauthorized access.
• Will consistently document systems and work instructions. 
• Provide system support to technology & business teams as needed during development, delivery, & design to guarantee robust, strong, scalable solutions.

General Requirements:

• A CS/CIS degree w/5+ years of experience or a related technical degree or the equivalent of 10 years of related experience. Must have a minimum of 3 years as a Linux System Administrator.

• Expertise in RedHat Enterprise Linux operating system. The ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written forms with management and contractor employees is required.

• Experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux operating system, VMWare in HA environment, Networks (Cisco), load balancers (F5), Network Appliance mass storage (NetApp), and server monitoring tools.
