Job Summary:
The Graphics Department Supervisor leads and trains the graphics team to ensure efficient operations and high-quality results. Serving as the subject matter expert on all graphics technology, especially the ESKO platform, this role oversees system maintenance, troubleshooting, and process improvements. Through strong collaboration across departments, the Supervisor drives automation, enhances workflows, and supports overall company success.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Will supervise and lead the Graphics Technicians, and provide training and guidance to the team
Will take part in interviewing, hiring and performance management for the team
Will complete employee reviews, which include goal setting and recommendations for merit increases
Some travel with overnights as required
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Graphics Department Supervisor, overseeing day-to-day operations, providing direction and support to the graphics team, and ensuring departmental goals are met.
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for all graphics/prepress systems (ESKO, GlobalVision, HP PrintOS, Gallus Prinect, EPS integration with Esko), the supervisor is responsible to understand these systems thoroughly to ensure our Graphics/Pre-press department stays abreast of the latest enhancements that ensure quality.
- Lead the testing, trialing, and implementation of new graphics software, workflows, and automation tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Drive innovation and process improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline operations and optimize graphics workflows through automation and technology.
- Collaborate closely with Production and Sales teams to prioritize and schedule jobs, communicate project timelines, and adjust resources as needed to meet changing deadlines.
- Serve as the liaison between the Graphics team and Production Management to ensure effective coordination and communication across departments.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to graphics team members to promote skill development and maintain high performance standards.
- Support cross-departmental initiatives and special projects by providing technical expertise and input on graphics processes and system capabilities.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies, software, and best practices relevant to the label and packaging industry.
- Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and training sessions—both virtual and in person—to stay informed on new trends and tools.
- Perform routine computer maintenance, including software updates and utility programs
- Ensure adherence to all Hub Labels safety rules, regulations, and PPE requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and a collaborative approach in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business needs and operational success.
Participate as a key player in the company by supporting operations as needed/HOP/OEE
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent language and communication skills for contact with employees, customer, and vendors
Thorough knowledge of professional graphic applications for Mac OS (Macintosh) including Adobe Creative Suite programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat), and Microsoft Office 365.
Knowledge of printing terminology and practices
Knowledge of utility programs such as file compression, disk repair, print spoolers, PC/Mac and PDF/Postscript conversions
Ability to prepare files for output to plate, receive and manipulate files electronically, and maintain MAC operating systems
Ability to send files to the Digital Plate Image Setter
Ability to manage a team of individuals and different projects to provide feedback on progress to direct supervisor
Education & Experience:
Associates Degree in graphics design or equivalent degree
Minimum of 5 years of print production experience and practical experience in graphic design
Previous leadership/management is preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and walk. Is frequently required to sit for extended periods.
Specific sight requirements include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Able to work under pressure and maintain job related deadlines. Manage multiple projects.
The work environment is that of a normal office with adequate lighting, ventilation, heating and air conditioning
Occasional exposure to manufacturing environment where conditions change as the outdoor climate changes
There is moderate exposure to moderate noise levels, moving equipment, and other general manufacturing hazards.
