Position Duties
- Serve as the primary VA School Certifying Official, ensuring accurate and timely certification of student enrollments in compliance with federal and institutional regulations.
- Maintain comprehensive records of VA students, including enrollment certifications, course schedules, and benefit usage documentation.
- Stay current on VA regulations and procedural changes, communicating updates to students and staff as needed.
- Assist with compliance audits by assembling required documentation, ensuring institutional readiness, and actively participating in the audit process.
- Provide academic advising to veteran and military-affiliated students, assisting with degree planning, course selection, transfer credit evaluation, and academic policies.
- Analyze student progress, offering intervention strategies to support retention and academic success.
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources, including tutoring, career services, and student support services.
- Support new student enrollment overflow from Recruitment and Admissions, ensuring timely advising and assistance during peak registration periods.
- Assist with Registrar’s Office overflow, including transcript evaluations, degree audits, and conferrals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with institutional policies.
- Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies for veteran and military-affiliated students.
- Represent MCC at military education fairs, college recruitment events, and base education offices.
- Build and maintain partnerships community organizations, and veteran service agencies to enhance student engagement.
- Conduct faculty and staff training on best practices for supporting military-affiliated students.
- Participate in professional development opportunities related to veterans' benefits and higher education administration.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field.
- Experience in VA education benefits administration, academic advising, student services, or veteran affairs.
- Knowledge of higher education enrollment processes and student retention strategies.
- Strong organizational and compliance management skills.
- Proficiency in student information systems and VA certification software.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Military experience or experience working with military affiliated populations.
- Experience collaborating with Financial Aid, the Business Office, and Registrar related functions.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex policies while maintaining a student centered approach.
- Office environment with travel required for recruitment events and student outreach.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
- Accountability – Ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to federal and institutional policies.
- Adaptability & Flexibility – Navigating evolving VA regulations, student needs, and institutional priorities effectively.
- Analytical Thinking – Assessing student records, interpreting VA policies, and making data driven decisions.
- Effective Communication – Clearly conveying information to students, faculty, and external stakeholders, ensuring a thorough understanding of processes and requirements.
