POSITION OVERVIEW:
Rates are determined based on experience and tenure. The rate for Apprentice (4th year) is $45.81 per hour. Journeyperson rates are determined based on the journeyperson tenure. The range is $53.89 to $59.17 per hour (depending on supplemental rates/premiums).
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
ON THE TOOLS (Weighting 70%)
Installation & Assembly
- Install and assembly industrial refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, piping, valves, and controls, according to engineering specifications and diagrams.
- Ensure proper alignment and connection of components and perform leak test to ensure system integrity.
- Install electrical wiring, control panels, and instrumentation enable system operation.
Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on industrial refrigeration equipment to ensure optimal performance an minimize downtime.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration system issues, and implement appropriate repairs or adjustments.
- Replace faulty or worn-out components such as motors, valves, fans, and thermostats.
- Conduct regular maintenance tasks including cleaning coils, lubricating moving parts, and inspecting refrigerant levels and pressures.
COMPLIANCE (Weighting 15%)
System Operations & Monitoring
- Monitor refrigeration systems and controls to ensure proper operation, temperature control, and energy efficiency.
- Adjust settings, pressures, and temperatures as needed to maintain optimal system performance and meet required specifications.
- Monitor and record system performance data, such as temperatures, pressures and energy consumption.
- Perform system start-ups, shutdowns, and defrost cycles according to established procedures.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal procedures for refrigerants and hazardous materials.
- Comply with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards in all aspects of refrigeration system installation, maintenance, and repair.
CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGEMENT (Weighting 15%)
Customer Service & Communication
- Communicate with customers, supervisors, and colleagues to understand project requirements, provide updates, and address any concerns or questions.
- Interact professionally and courteously with clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to customers regarding refrigeration system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, and parts used.
- Complete service reports, work orders, and other documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
- Provide detailed reports on equipment condition, performance, and recommendations for improvement or replacements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a refrigeration mechanic apprenticeship program or equivalent certification as a Journeyperson Refrigeration Mechanic.
- Must have experience working with ammonia.
- Strong knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, controls, and associated components.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration system issues.
- Basic computer skills required (MS Office Applications)
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills through on-the-job training.
- Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean Driver's Abstract
- Ability to work independently and on-call.
- Ability to work out of town. Travel and overnight stays may be required from time to time.
