Empire Eye is a progressive ophthalmic medical and surgical practice. We are seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. No prior experience in eye care...not a problem, we will train.

Work in a team-oriented clinical environment, taking pride in and providing outstanding patient care. Team members are responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations. Maintained patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. Assist Ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic clinical functions, such as patient workups and special testing. May administer eye medications and instruct the patient in the care and treatment of eye conditions, apply dressings to the eye, and assist with in-office lasers and procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Quickly and accurately summarizes and documents what the Ophthalmologist says during an examination, including but not limited to the proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment, and recommendations for treatment (including justification of decisions reached when appropriate).
- Maintains an awareness of the patient’s verbal and non-verbal communication when the Ophthalmologist is providing instructions as it may necessitate the scribe repeating information, and/or providing patient education materials for the patient to review at home.
- Ensures the patient understands all instructions.
- Take and document patients' medical histories.
- Operates ophthalmic equipment, such as Auto Refractor, Retinoscopes, Phoropters, Slit Lamp, Pentacam/Topography, Wavescan, IOL master/instar, Projectors, Zeiss OCT, and Heidelberg OCT.
- Pupil evaluation, Pachymetry, Humphrey Visual Field Testing, Tonometry, Color Vision
- Extraocular Muscle Function Testing & Hirschberg Testing.
- Van Herick measurements, Worth 4-Dot test, Stereopsis testing.
- Triages phone calls from patients and outside contacts following the standard of care for Ophthalmology and office policies.
- Sterilize instruments and maintain ophthalmic instruments or equipment.
- Assist patients in inserting or removing contact lenses.
Requirements
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of medical coding, terminology, and conventions.
- Proficient in math skills, including working with fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (G-Suite).
- Strong team player, adaptable, and willing to assist in all areas.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional demeanor, strong interpersonal skills, and commitment to patient confidentiality.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as an ophthalmic assistant; COA or COT certification preferred.
- Maintains appropriate education, certifications, licensure, and training.
