TFT Laboratory Instructional Assistant (LIA)– Welding Lab

The LCCC welding program covers all the major semi-automatic and manual welding processes. This includes Shielded Metal Arc Welding (stick), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or MIG), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or TIG) and Oxy-Fuel Welding. We also cover cutting processes such as Oxy-Fuel Cutting and Plasma Cutting as well as other process such as Soldering and Brazing.
As an LIA in the welding lab, your primary role will be to assist the instructors and partake in tasks that allow the lab to function as a whole. Good communication skills and a relaxed attitude are also important since you will regularly be working with students.
Typical tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
Setting up equipment and materials.
Cutting materials such as steel to prepare it for welding labs.
Assuring the proper and safe working condition of laboratory equipment.
Maintaining the laboratory supplies (ordering steel, taking inventory of filler materials etc.)
Maintaining laboratory cleanliness and organization.
Providing routine and preventive maintenance on equipment and making minor repairs.
Coordinating with the appropriate instructors for major repairs or calibration of equipment.
Being responsible for security of the assigned laboratories and their associated equipment and supplies.
Issuing and monitoring laboratory equipment and parts to students working in the lab at open lab times.
Completing special projects as approved by coordinators.
Setting up and learning the proper operation and maintenance procedures of new lab equipment.
Assisting in instruction during welding labs.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Associate Degree welding, applicants must be proficient in all of the major welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and Oxy-Fuel). At minimum, applicants must hold a one-year certificate in welding technology or 4 years work experience. You must also be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs and be able to work independently from others.
Preferred Qualifications: AWS Certs such as 3F or 3G in each of the major welding processes.

Starting from $46,400 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and established pay practices.
