Summary

Stratus is seeking a strategic and enterprise-minded Director, Safety to lead the transformation of our safety culture across all operations, with an emphasis on our manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for architecting and executing a safety vision that not only protects our people and assets but also drives operational excellence, employee engagement, and long-term business sustainability.

 

This individual will serve as the enterprise champion for safety innovation, regulatory excellence, and proactive risk mitigation. The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking safety leader with deep experience in manufacturing environments, a track record of building scalable safety systems, and the ability to influence at all levels of the organization. This is a full-time, onsite role based at our San Antonio manufacturing facility, where the Director, Safety will be embedded in the heart of our operations to lead hands-on transformation and drive meaningful impact.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Define and execute a multi-year safety strategy aligned with enterprise goals, emphasizing cultural transformation, proactive risk management, and operational integration.
  • Serve as the executive sponsor for safety initiatives, driving alignment across manufacturing, field services, and corporate functions.

 

Enterprise Program Design

  • Lead the development of enterprise-wide safety programs, policies, and training frameworks that are scalable, measurable, and adaptable to evolving business needs.
  • Ensure programs meet or exceed regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT) and reflect industry best practices.

 

Manufacturing Safety Excellence

  • Act as the primary safety authority for manufacturing operations, embedding safety into production workflows, equipment design, and facility planning.
  • Champion continuous improvement in safety performance through data-driven insights, employee feedback, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Maintain a strong onsite presence at our San Antonio manufacturing facility, ensuring direct engagement with frontline teams and real-time visibility into safety practices.

 

Leadership & Culture Building

  • Inspire and develop a high-performing safety team, including the Director of Safety, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and empowerment.
  • Influence leaders across the organization to prioritize safety as a core business value, not just a compliance requirement.

 

Risk Intelligence & Incident Management

  • Implement advanced risk assessment methodologies and predictive analytics to identify and mitigate potential hazards before they occur.
  • Lead serious incident investigations and ensure robust root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented and shared enterprise-wide.

 

Metrics, Reporting & Governance

  • Establish and monitor key safety performance indicators (KPIs), providing regular updates to executive leadership and the board.
  • Ensure governance structures are in place to support compliance, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Operations, or equivalent work experience preferred. An advanced degree is a plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience, with a strong emphasis on manufacturing environments required.
  • Proven success in developing and scaling enterprise safety programs.
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and change management skills.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and influencing at all levels of the organization.
  • Certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM are a plus.
  • Ability to work onsite 5 days per week at our San Antonio manufacturing plant.

 

Travel

This role may travel due to the need for in-person interaction with employees, customers, field partners, and/or business stakeholders. Travel may include local, regional, or national destinations and may be conducted via automobile, air, or other modes of transportation. All travel must be pre-approved in accordance with company policy and conducted in compliance with applicable safety and expense guidelines.
