Qualifications


Primary Purpose
:             

 

Provide appropriate learning activities to specific students who have been identified as

needing more literacy support by consulting with classroom teacher about the student’s

needs, designing assessments and curriculum to help students learn the basics of reading, such as learning letters and sounds, and progress in their reading skills.  Work on-on-one with individuals to ensure that they are receiving effective interventions.    


 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institute

Master’s Degree, preferred

Valid Texas Teacher Certification appropriate for assigned area

Certified Master Reading teacher, preferred

Bilingual/ESL Certification

 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of core academic subject assigned

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Demonstrates an understanding and use of equitable and culturally responsive practices

Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Ability to apply instructional strategies on differentiation in Reading

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of collaboration practices, team teaching practices, and special education

Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with school administrators, staff, students and families

 

Experience:

At least three (3) years of teaching experience

Technical Skills, Responsibilities and Duties


 In PSJA ISD, we hire individuals who demonstrate excellence in these technical areas as they lead others

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide high-quality instruction to individual students and small groups
  • Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade-level
  • Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and families to help identify best practices for individual and small groups of students
  • Uses identified research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student needs in Reading
  • Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress
  • Provides data to school teams and participates in decisions about student progress
  • Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress in Reading
  • Assists with identifying students for placement intervention groups
  • Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress
  • Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed
  • Provides input for program development
  • Supports implementation of assessment tools and data management systems
  • Attends the appropriate trainings to improve knowledge and skills in Reading
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
