About the Department



As the IT Technology Specialist at the Durango Public Library, you will serve as a point of contact for both library staff and community members who need technology support. You’ll install, maintain, and troubleshoot desktop, laptop, and tablet systems; manage hardware, software, and peripherals; and keep equipment running reliably to support the library’s daily operations. In this role, you’ll also coordinate library technology activities with the City’s central IT department and provide training and guidance to staff and the public on operating systems, software applications, and online library resources. You will participate in triaging technical issues with the IT Department, utilizing our help desk ticketing system.

Position Duties

What You’ll Do in This Role:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve computer hardware and software issues both on-site and remotely; maintain and install desktop, laptop, and tablet systems and peripherals.
  • Support specialized library technology, including public computers, the Integrated Library System (ILS), security cameras, self-check stations, automated returns, and the library app. 
  • Coordinate library technology activities with the City’s central IT department and assist with network support as needed.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all computer equipment and components using Lucity.
  • Perform system and software updates, maintain change records, and manage desktop security and virus protection.
  • Provide staff and public training on computer systems, software applications, and online library resources.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and system specifications.
  • Assist with updating and maintaining library web pages and online catalog pages.
  • Maintain and update public computer system images.
  • Assist with room setup and provide technology support to meeting room users.
  • Assist with onboarding and technology orientation for new staff.
  • Perform occasional circulation and reference desk duties.
  • Stay current on trends and innovations in computer and information systems technology.
  • Stay current on trends for library specific technology.

Minimum Qualifications

You Have: 

  • An associate's degree with coursework in electronics, telecommunications, management information systems, computer science, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in desktop, laptop, and tablet systems support.
  • System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or other remote desktop experience preferred. 
  • CompTIA A+ certification preferred.
