Position Summary
The Art Teacher brings passion, creativity, and heart to the Day Club experience. Using their unique artistic talents—whether in acrylic painting, watercolor, oil pastels, mixed media, plaster, woodworking, boutique crafting, upcycling, or textiles—the Teaching Artist designs and facilitates interactive, hands-on workshops that inspire self-expression and connection.
By introducing members to new artistic techniques and trends, the Teaching Artist helps participants tap into their imagination, develop interpersonal skills, reduce depression, and build confidence and self-esteem. Each session is an opportunity to create, laugh, and belong—transforming the art studio into a space where creativity and community flourish.
ENGAGE
- Design and facilitate creative classes that reflect your unique artistic style, talents, and passions.
- Inspire members to explore new techniques and build confidence through hands-on artistic experiences.
- Adapt and tailor classes to meet a variety of cognitive and physical abilities, ensuring each member feels successful and included.
- Foster a welcoming and encouraging environment that promotes self-expression, social connection, and joy.
- Collaborate with the care team to contribute to individualized care plans and complete progress notes that reflect members’ engagement and growth.
SUPPORT
- Welcome members with warmth and enthusiasm, assisting them as they arrive and depart the Club.
- Provide gentle guidance and encouragement to help members transition smoothly between classes and daily activities.
- Support daily routines, including helping with meal and snack preparation and service, to ensure a comfortable and engaging environment for all.
- Offer respectful assistance to members with personal care needs, including restroom support, always maintaining dignity, privacy, and compassion.
- Work collaboratively with team members to create a positive, uplifting atmosphere throughout the day.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Talents, passions, or interests in one or more areas of visual art, such as acrylic painting, watercolor, oil pastels, mixed media, plaster, woodworking, boutique crafting, upcycling, or textiles.
- A genuine passion for teaching and the ability to engage others creatively in both group and individual settings.
- A contagious, interactive, and charismatic personality that inspires joy, curiosity, and participation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect meaningfully with members, families, and teammates.
- Excellent organizational and self-management skills to balance multiple priorities and maintain a vibrant, well-prepared studio environment.
- Demonstrated planning, execution, and problem solving skills, with the flexibility to adapt and innovate in the moment.
- A team player who values collaboration, compassion, and shared purpose.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have current DPS clearance and successfully pass a background check.
