The Assistant Professor Nursing oversees the day-to-day activities of a nursing program course(s), including lecture/classroom theory activities and clinical supervision of 8-10 student nurses in curriculum courses of the program with the focus on Medical Surgical. The Assistant Professor serves as a Principal Course Instructor (PCI), responsible for leading the teaching team(s) in planning, implementing and evaluating course(s) of the nursing program, such as posting grades, schedules, syllabi, and calendars.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Control and monitor ongoing instructional activities and systems in order to maintain adherence to prescribed standards and student evaluation.

  • Coordinate and manage the course implementation in collaboration and consultation with members of the teaching team.

  • Engage in Nursing Program Governance through active participation in councils, committees and ad hoc groups to which assigned.

  • Hold students accountable for the acquired competency in their performance, and assists students in re-mediation to acquire and maintain competency.

  • Motivate students through instructional and counseling activities toward high levels of contribution to the discipline.

  • Conduct conferences with students concerning academic and clinical competence and progress.

  • Participate in recruitment and retention programs, and attend Nursing Education Program functions, such as Recognition (aka Capping) Ceremony and Conferring of Diplomas ceremonies.

  • Participate in scholarship through teaching, application, and the integration, and discovery of knowledge.

  • Plan meaningful learning experiences, such as classroom activities, pre/post conferences, and clinical assignments for student supervision, evaluation and feedback conferences.

  • Schedule, implement, and evaluate didactic and clinical/lab activities for curriculum courses to which assigned.

  • Prepare and implement the use of appropriate evaluation materials, such as syllabi, tests, and handouts, in a timely manner.

  • Prepare formal and informal reports, as required for Systematic Program Evaluation governing institution, and governmental and accrediting agencies.

  • Record and maintain data for student records, grades, accreditation, and school studies, such as test item banks, course evaluation portfolio, and annual course reports.

  • Request and submit complete descriptions of equipment and supplies needed for activities, such as clinical lab supplies, simulation lab supplies, and AV material.

  • Schedule end-of-year/term course reports, course reviews, and team meetings.


Qualifications

  • Preferred Doctorate Nursing, education or related field

  • Required Master's Degree MSN required OR must be enrolled and making orderly progression toward MSN degree completion within 1 year of employment. Continued employment is contingent on ongoing enrollment in and steady progression toward completion of a master’s degree in nursing. If hire is not compliant with this requirement after one year, employment will be terminated one year from date of hire.

  • 2 years Direct supervision or management Required

  • 3 years Clinical practice in Adult Health, Maternal-Child Health, Mental Health, Community Health or Home Healthcare setting Required

  • 1 year Teaching experience in a registered nursing education curriculum at the associate, baccalaureate, or diploma level Preferred

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - State Licensing Board Licensed to practice within respective state

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - American Heart Association in applicable state
