Supervisor of K-12 English/Language Arts and Humanities
REPORTS TO:
The Supervisor of English/Language Arts and Humanities is directly responsible to the Director of K-12 Teaching and Learning. The Supervisor serves as a liaison between school administration and certified professional staff members.
POSITION GOAL:
Assists in the coordination, development, implementation and evaluation of the school district’s K-12 English/Language Arts and Humanities curricula. Ensures that the curricula incorporates the PA standards and is appropriately aligned for systemic coherence.

- Possess appropriate level of education and experience to perform the essential duties relative to the position.
- Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret academic research, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, safety manuals, and other job-related publications. Generates routine reports and correspondence pertinent to the essential job duties
- Ability to communicate and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills effectively in dealing with students, staff, parents, community members, and educational agencies as related to performance of the duties of this position

- Knowledge of PA Core Standards for the District K-12 English/Language Arts, Writing, and the Humanities Curricula
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in English/Language Arts, Reading Specialist and additional certification in Social Studies preferred.
- Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction Certification and K-12 Principal Certification required.
- A minimum of five (5) years classroom experience teaching English/Language Arts, Reading, and Writing. Additional experience in classroom instruction of Social Studies preferred.
- Demonstrated Leadership skills and technology proficiency required, building level administration experience preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to utilize data to inform decision-making.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises the development and implementation of a K-12 English/Language Arts and Humanities Curricula assessment in areas assigned
- Assists in the District's attainment of certain expectations and goals surrounding the English/Language Arts and Humanities curricula
- Provides input to administrators concerning employment decisions to fill English/Language Arts and and Humanities teacher vacancies
- Provides leadership in curriculum development, standards, and curriculum mapping
- Plans, develops, and presents district and building-wide professional development related to English/Language Arts and Humanities content/data
- Reviews Grade K -12 Pacing Guides for K-12 English/Language Arts and Humanities curricula and provides feedback to teachers and building principals
- Audits Grade K-12 English/Language Arts and Humanities curricula documents to ensure proper alignment. Identify any pertinent gaps and assist in resolution
- Conducts content area walkthroughs at each school buildings to support K-12 English/Language Arts and Humanities, and provide guidance/suggestions for improvement of delivery of subject content
- Monitors implementation of any new English/Language Arts and Humanities software/materials, identifying any areas of concern
- Meets as necessary with building principals, district office administrators, teachers, and support staff to discuss needs, review data, review curricular documents, and assist with related curricular issues
- Participates in District-wide MTSS efforts and leads MTSS initiatives in assigned content areas.
- Meets with teachers in PLC meetings or as appropriate to assist and provide suggestions concerning content area data and delivery of English/Language Arts and Humanities instruction
- Conducts routine class visits to assist in supporting the K-12 English/Language Arts and Humanities curricula
- Provides ongoing feedback to building principals, the Director of K-12 Teaching and Learning, and District Administrators about grade English/Language Arts and Humanities needs.
- Demonstrates to staff how to access, and utilize curriculum maps for planning and evaluation purposes.
- Collectively, with the Teaching and Learning team members, assesses district needs; plans, develops, completes, and communicates information related to: District-wide Professional Development needs, ongoing curriculum department assessments, annual modifications process, Act 48 survey results and plans, new teacher induction, annual kindergarten screenings, State required FRCCP Reports (i.e., including but not limited to: Flexible Instruction Plan, Chapters 4, 48, 49 etc…) and others as assigned.
- Update, implement, and maintain the BTSD Curriculum Renewal Plan as assigned
- Performs other related job duties and responsibilities as assigned.
