JOB SUMMARY
The assistant principal supports the principal in establishing, promoting, and leading efforts to ensure inclusive educational opportunity and academic achievement of all students. Under the direction of the building principal, the assistant principal is responsible for leading, supporting, evaluating, and assisting in the supervision of building staff in the daily operation of the assigned school. As a member of the District Leadership Team, the assistant principal supports district-wide initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Leadership
1. Promote a positive, safe and caring climate for learning; create a welcoming environment that reflects and supports the racial and ethnic diversity of the student population and communities served.
2. Promote educational equity based on the principle that each student receives the support needed to achieve success.
3. Assist with the collaborative development and adaption of courses and school programs to achieve the school and district goals.
4. Effectively lead continuous improvement processes; promoting high expectations for students, staff, and self.
5. Model instructional leadership; consistently working to improve learning for all students.
6. Work with the principai and school staff to assess the need for and identify professional development opportunities in support of the school improvement plan.
7. Support teaching staff in implementing and aligning learning plans to state and district standards.
8. Support the principal in ensuring guidelines and enforcement of student conduct and discipline are equitable and achieve the desired goal.
9. Facilitate the development and implementation of the master schedule to meet student needs.
Management
1. Support the development and implementation of an annual school improvement plan that supports the values and strategic plan of the district.
2. Supervision, support and evaluation of school staff; providing honest, clear, and constructive feedback and identifying opportunities for growth.
3. Lead by example; consistently demonstrating ethical and professional standards of performance and personal integrity, including addressing concerns in an open, honest, compassionate, and timely manner.
4. Assists the principal in preparing the school's budget and monitoring the expenditure of funds. Manage school operations and finances in accordance with statutes, administralive rules, the district mission, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
5. Take a leadership role in the recruiting, screening, hiring and assigning of school staff.
6. Performs responsibilities and achieves goals as assigned by the principal.
7. Assists the principal in the general administration of the school, serves as principal when the principal is out of the building.
8. Build understanding and support by collaborating and communicating decision making processes as appropriate with students, teachers, and families.
9. Ensure compliance with and effectiveness of emergency and safety procedures, including written plans, reporting procedures and training programs.
10. lnvestigate, resolve, and communicate findings, as appropriate, related to complaints. Make high quality decisions based on evidence and data.
11. Take ownership for decisions affecting the school site and district.
District and Community lnvolvement
1. Establish and maintain partnerships with district and community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for school and district mission and vision.
2. Follow and supporl federal, state, and district regulations, policies, and practices.
3. Collaborate effectively with district personnel and peers; at regular team meetings; with teachers and other support staff.
4. Contribute to district leadership team; collaborating to promote and maintain a responsible and strong school district.
5. lnteract thoughtfully and professionally with students, staff and parents to resolve conflict in a professional, solution focused manner.
6. Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
7. Establish and/or participate in student, staff, and parent groups as necessary to assure communication among the various school and community groups and provide a systematic avenue for the discussion of school programs, practices and policies by all interested individuals.
