New Product Development Engineer chez Tempur Sealy International, Inc.

Job Summary:

The New Product Development Engineer will focus on innerspring and coil development and is responsible for the creation, validation, and transfer of innovative innerspring and coil technologies that align with brand innovation strategies. This role supports the development of new spring-based components and systems, working closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness. The engineer will also support quality and cost improvements for existing spring constructions and facilitate the transition of validated technologies to the New Product Development team.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Key Results Area:

Innerspring & Coil Development Focus

• Support / lead the design, prototyping, and testing of new innerspring and coil systems for mattress applications.
• Collaborate with the internal spring development team and external suppliers to co-develop proprietary spring technologies.
• Evaluate new spring materials, geometries, and assemblies for performance, durability, and cost.
• Develop and execute test plans specific to spring systems, including fatigue, compression, and rollator testing.
• Analyze test data and translate findings into actionable design improvements.
• Create and refine customized test methods for spring evaluation and validation.

Advanced Development Responsibilities

• Drive early-stage innovation projects through the Advanced Development Stage Gate process.
• Coordinate prototype builds, validation testing, and data collection for spring-based constructions.
• Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, and Sourcing to ensure feasibility and scalability.
• Transfer validated spring technologies, specifications, and documentation to the New Product Development team.
• Provide cost estimates and support cost-reduction initiatives for spring components.
• Facilitate internal and external innovation meetings focused on spring and support technologies.
• Support AD and NPD Engineers, Specialists and Technicians as needed.
• Manage multiple development projects and competing priorities effectively.
