Opportunity Summary
The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician ensures reliable and efficient operation of power plant systems, including combined cycle combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and auxiliary equipment such as air compressors, steam turbines, and condensers. They perform startup, shutdown, inspections, and minor repairs while adhering to safety protocols and maintaining accurate operational logs. By collaborating with maintenance teams and leveraging Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), the technician supports equipment reliability and optimal plant performance.
Your scope of responsibility as O&M Technician will include the following primary functions:
- Operate and control power plant systems, including combined cycle combustion turbines and heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), during startup, shutdown, and normal operation to ensure safe and reliable performance.
- Operate and adjust auxiliary systems such as air compressors, demineralized water systems, generator cooling systems, steam turbines, condensers, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment to maintain stable plant performance.
- Perform functional tests and inspections on assigned equipment to verify proper operation, identify issues, and complete minor repairs to prevent downtime.
- Prepare equipment for service while following established procedures and safety protocols to maintain a compliant work environment.
- Maintain detailed logs documenting system conditions, performance data, and equipment status throughout each shift.
- Report abnormal conditions immediately and take corrective actions within authorized guidelines to prevent equipment damage or hazards.
- Support scheduled maintenance by assisting personnel, isolating equipment, and ensuring safe, coordinated work execution.
- Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record data, track maintenance activities, and support efficient planning.
- Generate and manage work requests by documenting issues, recording completed actions, and noting spare parts usage and reorder needs.
- Execute corrective and preventive maintenance work orders to established standards, ensuring documentation accuracy and compliance with safety requirements.
- Monitor key operational parameters such as temperature, vibration, pressure, and fluid levels using meters, gauges, and automated systems to verify optimal performance.
- Perform condition-based inspections using visual, auditory, and tactile methods to detect wear, misalignment, or lubrication needs and take preventive action.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical equipment failures using established troubleshooting and repair procedures to minimize downtime.
- Calibrate, test, and repair instrumentation and electrical circuits using diagnostic tools to maintain accuracy and reliability.
- Assist in troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLCs), plant control systems, and distributed control systems (DCS), including component inspection, card replacement, and wiring terminations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager to support plant reliability, safety, and overall effectiveness.

Working Relationships
The O&M Technician reports to the Operations and Maintenance Manager and takes general direction from other plant management. Additionally, this position will coordinate with all other plant personnel to ensure safe and reliable plant operations.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The O&M Technician works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, alternating between days and nights to support continuous 24/7 operations and ensure seamless shift transitions. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status will also be required.
Compensation
This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $45 to $50 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.
Core Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for a skilled Technician with experience in power generation operations and maintenance, coupled with a proven ability to contribute effectively to team success and consistently meet performance standards.
- Proven hands-on experience in power generation technician roles, with competency in operating and maintaining combustion turbines, auxiliary systems, and combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) equipment.
- Journeyman-level skill in operating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Experienced in startup, shutdown, troubleshooting, and rebuilding pumps, valves, turbine-generators, and microprocessor-based equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of gas and steam turbine operations, Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS), electrical systems, process controls, and the ability to interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and related schematics.
- Proficient in interpreting and troubleshooting complex documentation such as blueprints, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams. Skilled in maintaining accurate maintenance records to ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
- Thorough understanding of safety programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), OSHA requirements, and environmental compliance standards.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams, contractors, and vendors to optimize resources, improve efficiency, and meet operational goals.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills with the mathematical aptitude to clearly convey complex technical information and solutions.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
