Job Description
$30.56 - $39.08 Hourly
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Health Department
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: 825 L. Street Anchorage AK 99501
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties
The Community Health Worker (CHW) provides administrative support for the Anchorage Health Department in support of bridging clinical, behavioral, and social services to support community members in achieving better health outcomes. This position provides community-based outreach, education, and care coordination to improve individual and population health outcomes, addresses gaps in access to care, connects clients with essential services like housing and transportation, and improves local understanding of public health barriers through data collection and community engagement. The CHW focuses on vulnerable and underserved communities, offering culturally responsive services related to communicable disease prevention, reproductive health, and substance use, including opioid use disorder (OUD). Under the direction of the Sexual Clinic Program Manager, the CHW will have a defined focus on supporting individuals and families affected by OUD consistent with allowable uses under the National Opioid Settlement Agreement. The CHW supports and promotes targeted efforts such as overdose prevention education, naloxone distribution, and navigation to medication-assisted treatment and recovery support. The CHW assists a multidisciplinary team of Public Health Nurses, physicians and support staff; coordinates with partner agencies; participates in disease investigations; and utilizes an electronic health record. Performs other duties as assigned.
The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (AHD) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster, AHD employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Finance or similar discipline and two (2) years of experience in the field related to the position
OR
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Finance or similar discipline and four (4) years of experience in the field related to the position. E
OR
High school diploma, GED or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in the field related to the position.
A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
Preferences:
Certification in Public Health (CPH)
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
Degree in Health Sciences
Certification in Medical Assisting (CMA) or Nursing Assisting (CNA).
American Red Cross/American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR), Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent
Preferred experience with local, state and federal grant awards.
Computer, shredder, calculator, fax machine, copier, computer software including Microsoft Office, and electronic health record software.
