About the Role:

The Operating Room Support Technician plays a dual role in the surgical services department by assisting with basic patient care tasks and performing critical environmental cleaning duties. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining the operating room environment, ensuring that all necessary instruments and supplies are sterile and readily available. The technician will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other medical staff to facilitate efficient surgical workflows. By providing essential support before, during, and after surgeries, the technician contributes to patient safety and overall surgical success. Ultimately, this role is vital in enhancing the quality of care provided to patients undergoing surgical interventions. The Support Technician may aid in the perioperative and postoperative areas as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS
  • Previous healthcare or environmental services
  • Ability to lift/move patients and equipment and be on their feet for extended periods of time
  • Knowledge of infection prevention or cleaning practices in healthcare

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in an operating room setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping and transferring under the direction of licensed staff
  • Support Surgical team by retrieving equipment and supplies as needed during cases
  • Monitor and safely handle surgical specimens, biohazard waste and soiled linens
  • Prepare the operating room by ensuring all surgical equipment is available and organized for room efficiency.
  • Clean surgical tables, equipment, lights, floors and high touch services to ensure room turnover efficiency.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and functionality of the surgical equipment.
  • Perform the setup and clean up of the operating room before and after surgeries- following AORN and infection prevention standards
  • Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols to ensure a safe surgical environment.
  • Keep linen hampers/trash containers emptied throughout the department.
  • Maintain stocked scrub uniform cabinet, stocked blanket warmers, and stocked supplies as needed.
  • Keep scrub sinks cleaned and stocked with necessary suplies.
