Position Title: Assistant Coach Track & Field

Department:  Athletics

Title of Immediate Supervisor: Director of Cross Country/Track & Filed

Expected Daily Work Hours: 8:00a – 5:00p; Full-time, 40 hours/week

Expected Weekly Work Schedule: Monday – Friday

Pay Grade:  1S

Pay Range:  $31,200 - $35,100

SUMMARY

 

Assists the Director of Cross Country/Track and Field in carrying out all assigned and auxiliary duties of cross country and track and field, while serving as the primary coach for one or more of the following event groups: sprints, hurdles, horizontal jumps, vertical jumps. This position is a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Clery Act.

 

Education and Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field, required.

 

 

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • College track and field student athlete competition experience, preferred.
  • 2 – 3 years’ experience coaching or training, required.    

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Coaching effectively in practice and competition.
  • Establishes good rapport and generates respect among students, campus colleagues, and the local community by conducting oneself in an ethical manner.
  • Assists in the selection, training, and supervision of student assistants and managers.

 

Data, Technology, and Compliance

  • Complies fully with NCAA, Collegiate Conference of the South, and Maryville College policies.
  • Promotes an atmosphere of compliance and student-athlete academic performance.
  • Assists in filing all reports relative to track and field as assigned by the head coach.

 

Stakeholder and Institutional Support

  • Assists in the recruiting of all potential student-athletes.
  • Maintains office hours as assigned by the head coach.
  • Serve as a Game Manager for select home athletic events.

 

Operations and Technical Oversight

  • Attends all practices, meetings, and contests.
  • Assists in the supervision, scheduling, and maintenance of facilities.
  • Assists in the organization and supervision of all off-campus trips.

 

Strategic Planning and Sustainability

  • Supports the overall goals of the track and field program by contributing to long-term planning, sustainability, and program growth as directed by the head coach.

 

Other:

NOTE: Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty, and students.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of written, oral, and diagram instructions.
  • Ability to read and analyze business documents, periodicals, operating manuals, and safety rules.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to write routine reports and other correspondence.
  • Must be able to speak effectively in front of groups, managers, and employees.

 

License, certification, or registration necessary:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • USTFCCCA Technical Certification, preferred

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors, students, staff and faculty.
  • May occasionally work in varying weather outdoors.  
  • Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds, including indoor and outdoor athletic fields and facilities.
  • May occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.

 

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:

  • Standard office equipment: computer, phone, etc.
  • Ability to operate a car, van, cart or other college vehicles
