About the Department
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Maintenance or their designee, the Lead Electrician is responsible for guidance and training of electrical technicians and performing electrical installation, construction, operation, maintenance, repair and inspections in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
Position Duties
High school diploma or GED; State of Alaska Journeyman's Electrical License (Certificate of Fitness); State of Alaska Electrical Administrator's License; five years’ experience as a Journeyman Electrician with 2 of the 5 years in Construction Management. Must have and maintain a valid unrestricted Alaska driver's license. Must have leadership and supervisory experience. Must have full scope knowledge of electrical installations and wiring, familiarity with the regulations contained in the National Electrical Code and the National Electrical Safety Code as approved by the American National Safety Institute.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Performs the work necessary for the installation and construction of electrical work within buildings and within property lines beginning at the secondary side of the transformer.
2. Provides daily training, instruction and guidance to electrician personnel
3. Schedules personnel and work assignments and monitors work flow to meet deadlines.
4. Outlines electrical projects, inspects project scope for conformance to blueprints, other specifications, and code compliance
5. Estimates and coordinates purchase of parts and supplies, and labor requirements for projects.
6. Sets up and administers and/or performs a preventive maintenance program.
7. Installs, maintains and repairs transformers, VFD’s, generators, panelboards, branch circuit wiring, transfer switches and motors including those used in elevators, manlifts and wheelchair lifts.
8. Installs, fabricates and maintains various types of raceways and lighting systems
9. Installs and repairs control and distribution apparatus
10. Inspects employee and contractor work for compliance with current NEC
Other Functions:
1. May install, maintain, and repair P.A. systems, clocks, scoreboards, televisions, sound, computer and satellite systems.
2. Implements lockout tagout procedures at all KPB facilities.
3. Other related duties as assigned.
Other Qualifications
This position may require flying in small aircraft and being away from home overnight. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers dexterously to operate tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate orally. Vision abilities also required. Sitting is required occasionally. The employee must frequently transport up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds. Must routinely work off extension ladders, scaffolding, manlift and bucket truck at heights up to 50 feet.
