General Purpose:  The Loan Officer Assistant (LOA) will review and correct/complete the 1003 partnering with Mortgage Loan Officer/Originator, manage/collect borrower documentation, field customer inquiries, data management in loan management software, pipeline management, and supporting the loan process.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assign branch referral leads to Mortgage Loan Officers/Originators using internal lead management software; manage leads from multiple in-house sources.
  • Review loan applications prior to disclosing and submitting loans to Mortgage Operations, ensuring all checklist items are complete, documents are uploaded, and asset/income statements are accurate.
  • Follow up with internal teams to ensure timely ordering of appraisals and titles
  • Provide timely communication to lending officers, members and Operations staff to ensure timely and consistent updates throughout the loan process.
  • Collaborate with Mortgage Operations, realtors, and borrowers to clear conditions and meet closing deadlines.
  • Conduct pipeline reviews with Mortgage Processors and Loan Officers to monitor progress and address outstanding issues.
  • Keep Loan Officers informed on file statuses and flag items requiring their attention.
  • Review Loan Estimates and Closing Disclosures for accuracy prior to delivery; communicate discrepancies to Loan Officers.
  • Verify accuracy and approve Doc Order Requests.
  • Monitor rate expirations using internal tracking systems.
  • Monitor compliance timelines on submitted files

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with client database management.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Mortgage Sales Manager or VP.

Job Knowledge:

  • Working Knowledge of the credit union’s products and services.
  • Working knowledge of BHFCU’s policies and procedures and service philosophy.
  • Working knowledge of BHFCU’s computer systems.
  • Working knowledge the mortgage process from Origination to Servicing. 
  • Have a baseline understanding of all Mortgage compliance such as, but not limited to RESPA/TILA, TRID, Regulation B, Regulation C, Regulation X, Regulation Z. ECOA, FHA, HOEPA and HMDA.

Job Qualifications (Education/Experience):

Job requires a two-year college level of language, math, and reasoning skills. A minimum of 2 years of mortgage experience is required.

Occasional travel to one of BHFCU’s branch locations or attendance at community events may be required.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions with supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations with extreme accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines/requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
