Aviagen Turkeys in Lewisburg, WV is seeking a Selection Crew Associate. This position is responsible to the Selection Manager for the implementation of best management practices required for the selection and sorting of Pedigree, GGP, GP, Parent and R&D stock.
Pre-employment drug testing (excluding THC) and criminal background check are required. Employees cannot own poultry or swine.
Major responsibilities:
1. BIRD HANDLING: Use proper technique to handle birds safely, firmly and with control so as to affect a minimum of stress on the birds. Properly drive, corral, and release birds throughout the selection/sorting process.
2. BIRD SELECTION/SORTING: Use proper technique to select, sort, attach identifying tags/food coloring, and other related activities. Includes, but is not limited to, the set up, cleaning and maintenance of selection equipment; implementation of precise, accurate bird sorting including assembling pens.
3. BIRD MOVEMENT: Use proper technique to perform all activities related to the loading and unloading of birds during transport. Includes setting up and disassembling catch pens, cleaning up after loadout, awareness and implementation of safe and proper bird handling procedures.
4. BIRD HUSBANDRY: Maintain awareness of flock and barn conditions. Identify, correct and/or report problems encountered during selection activities. Remove and record mortality, as well as proper implementation of all Biosecurity Guidelines.
5. MISCELLANEOUS: As required, cleaning and disinfecting of all selection equipment. Assist with other activities throughout the Production and R&D system.
6. Comply with Company Bio-Security Rules and Health, Safety and Environmental Policies, Animal Welfare Policies and all other Procedures and Standards
