About the Department

Receives, stores, and issues equipment, material, supplies, merchandise, or tools, and compiles stock records in stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard by performing the following duties.     

Position Duties

 

  1. Counts, sorts, or weighs incoming articles to verify receipt of items on requisition or invoices.  
  2. Examines stock to verify conformance to specifications. 
  3. Stores articles in bins, on floor, or on shelves, according to identifying information such as style, size, or type of material. 
  4. Fills orders or issues supplies from stock.
  5. Requisitions articles to fill incoming orders. 
  6. Compiles reports for Inventory Controller on use of stock handling equipment, adjustments of inventory count and stock records, damage to stock, location changes, and refusal of shipments.  
  7. Marks identifying codes, figures, or letters on articles.
  8. Distributes stock among workers, keeping records of material issued.  
  9. Makes adjustments or repairs to articles carried in stock. 
  10. Determines methods of storage, identification, and stock location considering temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, and required space.
  11. Cuts stock to size to fill order.
  12. Moves or transports material or supplies to other sections of the Water and Wastewater Department.
  13. Maintains inventory and other stock records as required by the Inventory Controller.
  14. Performs other duties assigned by the Inventory Controller within the scope of this job.
  15. Maintains the stock room and warehouse in a neat, clean, and orderly manner, i.e., sweeps floors, keeps all loose materials picked up, and disposes of all waste materials.
  16. Maintains an effective working relationship with the Inventory Controller, the Superintendent, and other employees of the Water and Wastewater Department.

Supervision Required: General supervision from the Inventory Controller and the Superintendent of Maintenance and Construction.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  1. Minimum of high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate with additional course work related to business or inventory control, 
  2. Eighteen months to three years’ experience in a related job, or a combination of education and experience. 
  3. A knowledge of the day-to-day materials used in a water/wastewater utility is preferred.
  4. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Other Qualifications

 

  1. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  2. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  3. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the department 
  4. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  5. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
