About the Department
Renton Public Health Center - Dental Clinic is seeking an Administrative Specialist II (Dental Clinic Patient Services Representative) to join our vibrant multi-disciplinary, and diverse dental team to support the delivery of health services to the county's most vulnerable people. Our clients are culturally, socially, and linguistically diverse. Applicants should be committed to working with diverse populations to provide excellent customer service to people from a broad range of cultures, communities, backgrounds, and experiences, including people experiencing homelessness and/or mental illness. This position supports and advances the Community Health Services Division (CHS) values for fair and culturally competent service delivery, innovative, effective, and efficient application of resources, building a culture of performance, expanding opportunities to seek input, and listen and respond to clients.
This position will be based out of Renton Public Health Center and may float to the other four dental clinics (Columbia, Downtown, Eastgate, and North) as needed for business operations. This full-time position is a Career Service position. Please note that the work performed by this position will be completely onsite. This position will not be able to telecommute. King County Dental Clinics provide emergency and comprehensive dental services to an ethnically and racially diverse population of low-income children and adults, pregnant women, and those living homeless.

Work Schedule
The typical work schedule for the clinic locations will be Monday through Friday, with hours between 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE). This position is subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.
Work Location
This position will work primarily at the Renton Public Health Center at Renton Technical College located at 3201 NE 7th Street, Renton, WA 98056. The incumbent will need to float to other Public Health Dental Clinics throughout King County. The other clinics you may need to work at include:
- Columbia City Center for Health located at 4400 37th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118.
- Downtown Public Health Center located at 2124 4th Ave, Seattle, WA 98121.
- Eastgate Dental Clinic located at 14350 SE Eastgate Way Bellevue, WA 98001.
- North Seattle Public Health Dental Clinic (Lake City) located at 12359 Lake City Way NE, Seattle, WA 98125.
On-site presence required.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Position Duties
- Interpret communication between Public Health staff and clients in order to provide Public Health services.
- Greet patients, both in person on the phone, and electronically complete registration and check-in.
- Schedule patient visits with appropriate providers and programs.
- Make appointment reminders and outreach phone calls.
- Solicit financial and insurance information, verify insurance coverage, calculate charges, and collect payments when appropriate.
- Identify when patient needs triage by healthcare staff, and quickly identify potential emergencies.
- Coordinate patient and information flow, while maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with Federal HIPAA laws.
- Utilize a variety of computer programs, including Epic (Wisdom), Provider One, and Microsoft Office. Utilize interpreters as appropriate.
- Verify that visits and paperwork are correct to ensure accuracy and billing.
- Perform general office duties such as copying, faxing and other clerical duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following (Minimum):
- Experience working in a healthcare or social service delivery environment providing a high level of customer service in a fast-paced, high-volume environment for at least one (1) year OR equivalent education/training in this kind of work.
- Training and/or experience in a position requiring significant public contact providing detailed information over the phone or in person.
- Commitment to providing exceptional customer service with compassion and patience, are approachable, an effective listener, and will enjoy working with people from a variety of cultures, communities, backgrounds, including individuals with limited English or living homeless.
- Skilled at handling confidential data and sensitive situations with tact and discretion.
- Detail-oriented.
- Reliable in attendance and punctuality.
- Skilled at organizing, prioritizing and problem solving.
- Skilled at communicating and explaining information in a clear, professional, and simple manner.
- Are action-oriented and able to quickly prioritize, use time effectively and efficiently, are skilled at identifying and eliminating barriers, and are willing to ask for help to accomplish tasks.
- Enjoy working with a team, are cooperative, encourage collaboration, and can work with teammates to find collectively beneficial solutions.
- Are able to maintain their composure under pressure.
- Able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Understanding of inclusive engagement as well as equity and social justice principles-experience incorporating these principles into daily work and collaborating with a team to drive program toward racial and social equity goals.

- Experience in the dental field. Applicants with clinical dental experience are encouraged to apply.
