Community Health Engagement Coordinator

Job Description

Mazzoni Center is seeking a passionate and community-driven Community Engagement Coordinator to play a vital role in promoting health equity and expanding access to care for medically underserved communities, especially LGBTQ+, BIPOC, low-income, youth, and uninsured individuals.

This position leads grassroots outreach, builds trusted relationships, facilitates Community Advisory Boards, and organizes impactful events—all while ensuring the voices of priority populations are heard, respected, and included in our service delivery and program design.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Develop and lead outreach strategies tailored to the needs of priority populations.
  • Represent Mazzoni Center at community events, health fairs, schools, and local gatherings.
  • Plan and manage community events—including logistics, volunteer coordination, promotion, and evaluation.

Community Leadership & Advocacy

  • Establish and facilitate Community Advisory Boards (CABs) to bring authentic community feedback into the organization.
  • Support CAB members with meeting preparation and follow-up.
  • Document and share insights with internal teams to help shape programs and services.

Advancing Health Equity

  • Partner with internal teams and community stakeholders to address systemic barriers to care such as racism, poverty, immigration status, stigma, housing insecurity, and more.
  • Execute targeted engagement strategies like:
    • Peer-led support initiatives
    • Culturally and linguistically relevant outreach
    • Collaboration with trusted community leaders
    • Education and support groups
  • Conduct listening sessions, focus groups, and surveys to gather direct community input.
  • Provide relevant resources and supportive strategies to external partners to support their efforts to increase LGBTQ+ and HIV competency

Program Support & Reporting

  • Track outreach activity and community data using internal systems.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to leadership and funders.
  • Attend team meetings, trainings, and supervision.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and agency policies.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in community outreach, engagement, or health education.
  • Strong understanding of health equity and the needs of historically marginalized populations.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of HIV and/or sexual and domestic violence

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in event planning and/or facilitating community meetings.
  • Bilingual (Spanish, ASL, or another community language) a strong plus.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and virtual collaboration tools.
  • Passion for LGBTQ+ health and social justice.
  • Facilitation or teaching experience
