JOB TITLE: Teaching Assistant Assigned to Library
SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Principal, the assistant performs any combination of the tasks designated below.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:
1. Assists with individual students and leads classes of students to reinforce learning concepts.
2. Supervises the media center.
3. Assists staff and students in locating, acquiring, scheduling, and using equipment and materials.
4. Supervise circulation counter, shelves materials, and utilizes the library computer software management system.
5. Make simple repairs to equipment not under a service contract; sends other equipment for repair.
6. Assists with preparing new materials for circulation.
7. Alerts the classroom teachers to any problems or special information about a student.
8. Assists with lunch supervision, emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and other specified duties as directed by the principal.
9. Guides students in working cooperatively.
10. Provides information to assist a substitute teacher.
11. Maintains the same high-level ethical standards of behavior and confidentiality as expected of all personnel.
12. Maintains inventory control.
13. Reports to the building principal.
14.Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
One or two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and employees of the school corporation.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts appropriate for a media assistant in the media center.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS:
Ability to utilize technology appropriate to the functions of this job, including word processing and spreadsheet. Ability to work effectively with several activities and some interruptions. Knowledge of library classification systems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; talk; hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, and crouch.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Time card during school year. Salary and benefits to be determined by the School Board.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated by the building principal in accordance with School Board policy.
